Introduction

Background of the Study

Studying is a student’s instrument to better cultivate thinking and improve

learning. Students’ actions specifically their study habits or habits will reflect on their

performance. According to Mubarak, (2017), study habits is a buying out of a dedicated

scheduled and uninterrupted time to apply oneself to the task of learning. It tells a person how

much he will learn and how far he wants to go, and how much he wants to earn. According to

the study as cited by Fouche (2017), he described good study habits like doing homework,

actively participating in class, managing time, staying focused, and working hard showed a

significant positive correlation on their academic performance. Rabia, et al. (2017), in their

study results showed that there is a significant relationship between study habits and

academic performance of the students. This study indicates that study habits identify a person

how much he would be able to learn. Moreover, the result indicated a significant relationship

between study habits and the students’ academic performance. Gudaganavar, et. Al., (2014)

study habits are the behaviour of an individual related to studies through the process of

learning, the learner’s habitual ways of exercising and practicing his abilities for learning are

considered as his study habits.

Study habits are one of the ways to improve a student’s performance in school.

Barcenas, et. Al., (2022), it is an important factor to sustain the academic performance of

students. A habit is defined as a planned schedule done regularly, while to study is to gain

knowledge. Therefore, study habits are done regularly in order to expand learning. Olivia,

(2021) In the present time, learners’ study habits affect their learning and academic
performance, and the outcome progress illustrates the development of cognitive and practical

skills. It is an action like reading, taking notes, conducting study groups that students perform

frequently, and regularly accomplishing the learning goals. It can be defined as effective or

counterproductive based on whether it serves the students well. (Cruz, et. Al., 2020).

The main goal of this study is to determine how students' study behaviors and

academic achievement relate to one another. We are interested in conducting research on how

students at Linao National High School’s study habits affect their academic success. Thus, to

provide activities that will motivate the learners to be more academically equipped.

Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of this research is to study the effect of study habits on the

academic performance of the students.

Specifically, the study looks for answer by the following questions:

1.

2.

3. Which of the study habit is the most effective?

Significance of the Study

This study will be significant to the students to have an idea and knowledge of what

are the effects of their study habits on their academic performance. Also, to the parents, the

given data would help them formulate some preventive measures to help their children to

improve their study habits.

Scope and Delimitation

The study on the effects of study habits on the academic performance of the students

in Linao National High School aims to explore the correlation between study habits and

academic success among students. The research will focus on identifying the various study

habits adopted by students, such as time management, note-taking, and active class

participation. It will also analyze the impact of these study habits on the academic

performance of students, such as grades and test scores. The study will involve a sample of

students from Linao National High School, limiting the generalizability of the findings to

other schools or settings. Furthermore, the study will be limited by potential biases, such as

self-reported data, and the possible influence of external factors, such as socioeconomic

status, on academic performance.
