Learning Activity Sheet #1

Sprouting Experiment

Objectives:
 Investigate what plants need to survive by sprouting their own seeds.
 Predict and hypothesize how space conditions might be challenging for plant growth.
 
Materials:
15 pcs Mungo/Balatong (mung beans)
3 glass jar with cover
5 pcsPaper towel/small piece of cloth
Water
 
Procedure:
1.    Soak the mungo/balatong in water overnight. Make sure the water is more than enough to cover all the
mungo/balatong.
2.    After soaking, rinse and drain your seeds.
3.    In a glass jar, put a wet paper towel or small pieces of cloth. Put 10 pieces of mungo seed inside.
4.    Do procedure 3 in another 2 glass jars.
5.    Label each jar as A, B, C.
 
Set up A.
         In jar A, put it outside your house, make sure that it receives enough sunlight. Put a small amount of
water once a day. Then cover it. 

Set up B.
In jar B, put it outside your house, make sure that it receives enough sunlight. Put a small amount of
water, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Cover it with wet paper towel or wet small piece of cloth.
 
Set up C.
In jar C, put it inside a cabinet, put a small amount of water, cover it and leave it there.
 
6.    Each day for the next few days, check on the seeds. Record observations and track their growth using
the data sheet.
