I INTRODUCTION
As part of the project of construction of a solar power plant of 25 MW capacity in Odienné on
an area of 50 ha, the Laboratory of Building and Public Works (LBTP) was consulted by the
company FEEDBACK INFRA, to carry out a geotechnical survey.
II MISSION OF LBTP
The intervention will cover G1 geotechnical engineering missions in accordance with the
French standard NFP 94-500 of November 2013.
This mission will permit to determine the lithology of the soil in place, the compactness of the
layers, the estimate of the admissible stress and eventually the level of the water table.
V PROGRAMME DE SONDAGE
The geotechnical investigations program defined by the customer consists of the execution
of:
- 12 dynamic penetrometer test down to 6 m depth or refusal ;
- 12 trial pits down to 1 m depth with soil sampling for laboratory tests (Particles size
analysis, Atterberg Limits, Water content, Proctor test) ;
- 12 soil resistivity measurement.

Dynamic penetrometer
The analysis of these graphs permit to determine the compactness of soils. In general, the
values on these graphs are decreasing.
On the two first meters the soils compactness goes from very compact to compact. These
soils are probably the same than lateritic gravelly obtained when doing the trial pits of 1 m
depth. Beyond 2 m depth, the soils are compact to medium compact.
IX FOUNDATION POSSIBILITIES
The nature of the soil in place and the type of building (Solar panel) permit us to consider the
hypothesis of shallow foundations.
The application of this rule permits to determine as a first approximation and for foundations
between 1 and 2 m deep the allowable stress on the soil as presented in the following tables:
By analyzing the tables above, we can note as allowable stress on the soil for shallow
foundations with an anchoring depth between 1.00 m and 2.00 m from the ground surface
the value of 0.19 MPa.
IX.3 Settlements
The dynamic penetration test does not permit to determine the amplitude of settlements.
Nevertheless, given the nature, the compactness of the soil encountered and the type of
structure to build (solar panel), the settlement should be admissible under the allowable
stress restained.
- Nature of soils
The trial pits (PM1 to PM12) made during our intervention in March 2019 allowed to identify
soil layers on the first meter. These layers are constituted successively by a topsoil of 10 cm
thick, followed by lateritic gravelly of various colors.
During our intervention in March 2019, the water table was not encountered. It is likely
located beyond the surveyed depth.
- Compactness of soils
On the two first meters the soils compactness goes from very compact to compact.
Beyond 2 m depth, the soils are compact to medium compact.
- Allowable stress
We can note as allowable stress on the soil for shallow foundations with an anchoring depth
between 1.00 m and 2.00 m from the ground surface the value of 0.19 MPa.
- Settlements
The dynamic penetration test does not permit to determine the amplitude of settlements.
Nevertheless, given the nature, the compactness of the soil encountered and the type of
structure to build (solar panel), the settlement should be admissible under the allowable
stress restained.
The conclusions of this report remain valid subject to the following important observations :
IMPORTANT REMARKS
This report and its appendices constitute an indissociable whole. The improper use that
could be made of a communication or partial reproduction without the written consent of
L.B.T.P. can not engage the responsibility of this one.
Changes in the layout, design or significance of the constructs in relation to the data in
this study may lead to changes in the conclusions and requirements of the Report and
should, therefore, be brought to the attention of L.B.T.P..
Likewise, new elements highlighted during the execution of the foundations and that could
not be detected during the reconnaissance operations (for example: localized heterogeneity,
water coming, etc ...) may render obsolete the whole or part of the conclusions of the report.
These new elements as well as any major incident occurring during the works (sloping of
the embankment, landslide of the excavations, damage caused to existing constructions,
etc ...) must be immediately reported to L.B.T.P. to enable him to reconsider and eventually
adapt solutions initially recommended.
L.B.T.P. can not be held responsible for the changes made to his study only to the extent
that he has given, in writing, his agreement on the said modifications..
It is strongly recommended to the client to make proceed at the time of the opening of the
excavations or the realization of the first piles, to a site visit by a specialist L.B.T.P..
The purpose of this visit is to verify that the nature of the soils and the depth of the
foundation horizon are consistent with the data of the study. It gives rise to the drawing up of
a report.
