Reconciliation
Project
For this project, you will use what you have learned this week surrounding the historical attitudes towards
Indigenous people in Canada and take a stance on the adequacy of Canada's official response to the treatment
of Indigenous people in residential schools.

The medium through which you choose to represent your understanding is up to you but here are some
suggestions:
Create a FlipGrid video (5-10 minutes in length) responding to government action - this is a good option for
those who are not fans of writing (link on Google Classroom)
Write a "letter" to the minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations in Canada detailing your thoughts
Got other creative ideas? Come talk to me and we can discuss alternatives :)

Assignment Details:
1. Take a clear stance on the issue.
a. Some options include: congratulate the government for its excellent response OR acknowledge the
government's barely acceptable response and suggest improvements OR chastise the government for
its inadequate response and suggest a substantially different course of action.
2. Support your stance by addressing the following questions (with ample detail):
a. Was a significant injustice committed?
b. Were the people who had a role in facilitating these institutions (i.e. government officials , leaders at
kasjdkjaksjdthe schools - nuns, priests, teachers) knowingly guilty?
c. Do current governments bear any responsibility for things done before their time in office?
d. What would an appropriate, feasible, and fair response entail?
