Globalization is a phenomenon in the history of mankind, which brings with

it many consequences, both beneficial and detrimental to the economies of

individual countries. It the fact, the world, because of the exchange of goods and
products, information, knowledge and cultural values, is becoming more
interconnected. Over the past decades, the pace of this global integration has become
much faster and more impressive thanks to advances in areas such as technology,
communications, science, transportation, and industry. Although globalization
accelerates the development of mankind and is its consequence, it is a difficult
process which could create serious problems and difficulties.
I interviewed all family members as well as friends and asked them about
globalization. My generation and the generation of my parents singled out mainly
the advantages of globalization, while the generations of grandparents spoke only
about the disadvantages. I would like to talk primarily about positive things in my
parents’ opinion came with globalization to our world. First of all, it became possible
to communicate with people at a distance. This is very important for people, who
are away from relatives or close friends. Also, the global network allows you to
contact people from different countries, thanks to which there is an exchange of
views, information, which allows you better understand people with other cultures.
Secondly, globalization stimulates the growth of competition, which leads to the
creation of new, better products. That is why every year we get more and more
advanced technologies. Another significant advantage of globalization for my
parents and friends is appearing of TNCs. Because no matter what continent they
are on, they can always go to their favorite chain stores and buy good quality goods.
Also, due to the huge volumes of supply, the product acquires a low price, which
allows people with low incomes to buy it. Next, I would like to tell you what the
negative brought globalization in the opinion of my grandparents. The worst thing
for them is the decline in the level of spiritual culture, which has been oppressed by
mass culture, created with the main goal of entertaining people for profit. This is
followed by computer games, as they are one of the components of the entertainment
business. According to them, video games make people aggressive and stupid.
Speaking about transnational companies, my grandmother believes that since their
capital exceeds the budgets of several countries combined, they have leverage over
the government, and this is dangerous.
As I said earlier, different generations look at globalization from different
sides. Most likely, this is a consequence of the conflict of generations, when
interests, views and values collide. In general, if taken as a percentage, then my
social environment looks at globalization as something good. My parents don't want
to go back to the times of the USSR, when the shelves were empty, and from
entertainment there were few channels on the TV. Also, after the USSR collapsed,
and it became possible to go abroad, my parents undoubtedly did it. Visiting
countries, they saw how Europeans live, which significantly influenced their
worldview. My grandparents never traveled outside the borders of the USSR
countries.
What do my relatives and friends think about the future of Ukraine under the
influence of globalization? In fact, they cannot say for sure whether this process will
positively or negatively affect the economic, political and social spheres of
Ukrainian life. But many of them see good perspectives: development of
gastronomic tourism, foreign investments could positively affect the economic state
of our country, and, most importantly, the educational system could take a good
example from foreign one.
