1. Preparation/Motivation
• The teacher presents a short video clip then asks the following questions to the learners.

Questions:
- What is the video clip all about? How often do you use the internet?
- Can you live without the internet? How is it important to you?
- Can you imagine the world without the internet?

2. Presentation
The presents the presents the lesson “Relevance and Truthfulness of Ideas”.

3. Discussion
• The teacher discusses how to judge a reading text and differentiate relevant from irrelevant ideas.

✓ Judgement in reading is the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible

conclusions while considering the text’s details.
✓ Reading is a goal-directed activity. You read for a purpose.
✓ A text is considered relevant when it matches to the readers’ goal. Information that does not
match the goal is less relevant, regardless of its importance.
✓ Not all relevant information is truthful. Ideas or information are considered truthful once it is
verifiable.

4. Generalization
After the discussion, the teacher asks the students:
• What is the difference between relevant and irrelevant?
• How will you determine if the relevant information is true?
 • As a student, how can judging the relevance and truthfulness of ideas help you?

5. Application
• The students answer the following activity in pairs.
Directions: Although phones prove to have many advantages, there are still setbacks in its use. Use the diagram
to list three (5) advantages and three (5) disadvantages of using a phone. Write your answer on a separate
sheet of paper. Rubrics is given already.

Social networking sites encourage us to be more public about our personal lives. Because intimate
details of our lives can be posted so easily, we often don’t use the filters we might normally employ when talking
about our private life. What’s more, the things we post remain available indefinitely. While at the moment, a
photo of friends doing shots at a party may seem harmless, the image may appear less attractive in the context
of an employer doing a background check. While most sites allow their users to control who sees the things
they posted, such limitations are often forgotten.

VI. REFLECTION: The students were able to differentiate between bias and prejudice. However, the learners need more
examples to determine the type of bias each situation presents.
