Purchase specification
Primary bolt assemblies - Fasteners
1. Scope of work
This purchase specification defines the naming convention and how to interpret the used syntaxes. The specifica-
tion provides the possibility to cover all ISO and DIN standards related to fasteners including bolts, studs, nuts and
washers. The specification covers the mechanical requirements for carbon steel fasteners and coating require-
ments for fasteners in general. Requirements towards friction controlling topcoats applicable for zinc flake coatings,
dry to touch lubricants for stainless steel fasteners and pre-lubricated fasteners with a wet lubricant is also ad-
dressed. It furthermore specifies specific requirements towards type of product, e.g. geometrical requirements. The
specification also provides a list of allowed substitutions for specific products.
The last section includes topics that needs to be addressed during qualification of new suppliers/existing suppliers
for new product groups and the specific qualification requirements for each group/subgroup.
2. Normative references
Normative references are cited at appropriate places in the text. The references and the titles of the relevant publi-
cations have been listed below. For dated references, any subsequent amendments to or revisions of these publi-
cations only apply to this specification if they have been included through revision of this document. For undated
references the latest edition of the publication, which is referred to, applies.
3. Abbreviations / Definitions
Manufacturer The term “Manufacturer” means the organization executing the activities required to
manufacture and deliver a product and/or a process step, e.g. a washer or the hot dip
galvanizing process.
Manufacturing lot The term “Manufacturing lot” means quantity of product of a single designation including
product grade, property class, thread diameter and length, manufactured from bar, wire,
rod or flat product from a single cast, processed through the same or similar steps at the
same time or over a continuous time through the same heat treatment cycle and/or coating
process.
The manufacturing lot may be split into several manufacturing batches for processing
purposes and then reassembled into the same manufacturing lot.
Principal Symbol The term “Principal symbol” means the text within [ ] must be considered as the principal
symbol. e.g. “[ISO4014]” means the text “ISO4014” must be considered as the principal
symbol.
Same heat The term “Same heat treatment cycle” means
treatment cycle for a continuous process: the same treatment cycle without any setting
modifications;
for a discontinuous process: the same treatment cycle for identical consecutive
loads (batches).
SGRE The term “SGRE” means Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
Supplier The term “Supplier” means the organization, that has received the purchase order from
SGRE for the supply of the product.
CoF Global coefficient of friction determined according to ISO16047.

) It is the supplier’s responsibility to define a proper value/method that ensures the integrity of the transition
section between the head and the unthreaded shank or the thread.
The surface hardness must not exceed 375 HV for 10.9 and 430 HV for 12.9 and is defined as the mean value of
three measurements taken in a cross section in the middle of the non-threaded area of the shaft, 0.10 mm ± 0.02
mm, below the surface of the bolt (not below the surface of the coating). For full threaded products, the measure-
ment is performed in the middle of the bolt end. In the case of doubt the surface hardness after the coating process
is decisive for acceptance.
For bolts and studs ≥ M56 it is required to perform a hardness profile per manufacturing lot to prove that the me-
chanical properties are maintained over the entire threaded cross section. Therefore, at least 8 hardness meas-
urements in Vickers and a minimum load of F ≥ 98N must be taken even spread throughout the radius. For this
𝑑3
purpose, the radius is defined − 1 mm. The outer measurement point should have a minimum distance of 1 mm
2
from the edge. Figure 3 shows the measurements points.
the minimum ultimate tensile load Fm,min must be calculated as: 𝐹𝑚,𝑚𝑖𝑛 = 𝐴𝑠,𝑛𝑜𝑚 ∙ 𝑅𝑚,𝑚𝑖𝑛
the proof load Fp must be calculated as: 𝐹𝑝 = 𝐴𝑠,𝑛𝑜𝑚 ∙ 𝑆𝑝,𝑛𝑜𝑚
where
2
𝐴𝑠,𝑛𝑜𝑚 : Nominal stress areas of thread in mm .
For products in property class 8.8, 10.9, and 12.9 the requirements to heat treatment process listed hereafter must
be met.
7. Type of product
Section 7.1 describes the geometrical requirements towards the products and section 0 describes the requirements
towards identification/marking. Section 0 defines the configuration of assemblies and kits.
Bolts and studs can be manufactured with a center hole according to ISO 6411, unless otherwise
specified on an additional drawing.
External threads must be manufactured by a rolling process. Table 8 specifies the tolerances for different coating
systems.
Table 8. Tolerance classes for external thread prior and after coating processes.
Table 9. Tolerance classes for internal threads prior and after coating processes.
For bolts ≥ M22, the transition between the thread and shank, and the root run-out must meet the requirements
shown in Figure 4. Rmin is defined in ISO 965-1.
Figure 5 and Figure 6 describes the relation between the principal symbols and the geometry of the stud.

marking must be located.

Table 12 defines the design and drive size requirements for bolts with the designation “ISO 10642-T”. Depth of
drive is to be defined by the manufacturer without compromising the reduced loadability from ISO 898-1.

vant requirements in section 10.3 of EN ISO 898-1:2013 or section 10 of EN ISO 898-2:2012 formed using num-
bers and/or letters. For dimensions ≥ M22 the marking must be readable after coating. The requirements are
shown in Table 15.
