Topics: Modeling Fluid System (CLO3: (a), (b), (d) & CLO5: (c), (e))

Q1 In the liquid level system shown in Figure Q1, the resistances 𝑅 and 𝑅 are linear, and the
input is the pressure source 𝑝 , and an inlet flow rate 𝑞 .

(a) Determine the mathematical model of the fluid system for the height ℎ. Assume that ℎ < 𝐷.
(15 marks)

(b) Determine Transfer Function based on the result of Q1(a), where the input is only considering
from 𝑞 (no supply from 𝑃(𝑠).
(10 marks)

(c) Based on the result in Q1(b), justify the characteristics of the system.
(5 marks)

(d) Determine the mathematical model of the fluid system for the height ℎ. Assume that ℎ > 𝐷.
(15 marks)

(e) Present your comments by comparing the results of Q1(a) and Q1(d).

Q2 Figure Q2 shows a Heating Room, which partly isolated. There is a thermal system consisting
of an electric heater in a room. Heat input by the heater is 𝑞 and heat loss from room is 𝑞 .
Air in the room is at uniform temperature, 𝑇, and surrounding temperature is 𝑇 . Thermal
capacity of the room is C, and wall thermal resistance is R.

(a) Determine a mathematical model of temperature of the room.
