General Psychology

10th March, 2020

On Friday, February 28, 2020, an interview was conducted with Mr. Dave Adams, an

airport technician, through the comfort of his own home to ensure confidentiality. Mr. Adams
was told the intent of the interview before the interview was conducted. I listed the risks related

to the discussion. The interview started with a series of questions about stress factors in the

workplace, family, and social fields, and he agreed to sign this informed consent form. Here was

what the interview revealed. Mr. Adam, who described that he experienced occupational stress in

his work environment due to muscle tension, loss of interest in work, and irritability. He

expressed that he has no control over his working life and that the company works backward

where they missed the chain of command. They would send memos but not send them to

everyone, so there's a lot of back-and-forth and confusion, as well as the company not working

digitally. Furthermore, he the job that he has isn’t the job he wants to be in.

Mr. Adams is newlywed with one child. He experiences acute financial stress within the

marital household due to him and his spouse not being on the same page when it comes to

money, paying private school fees as well as living check to check paying bills. He describes that

he and his wife came up with a savings plan in addition to a new business venture together to

bring in a third income. Another life stressor Mr. Adams identified was the death of a loved one

due to unknown illness. Although Mr. Adams was able to distinguish life stressors and issues

with his management at times, he reported that an informal network with friends and family was

helping him cope with both stressors. Apart from that, he uses alcohol and marijuana to comply

with both life stressors because he can come home to either indulge in his sorrows or enjoy the

sense of freedom after a long day at work. He admits that he knows that he can still make more

positive changes to his life by having a sense of balance by eating healthy and enjoying life.

In summary, Mr. Adams was engaged in and reacted to all the questions highlighting the

significant role stress plays in an individual's emotional and physical well-being and quality of
life. I believe that Mr. Adams will strive to find more ways to cope with his stress, which will, in

effect, boost his life experience.
