Tutor:
Nosedive” is an Episode of Black Mirror series on Netflix that show how social media daily
are becoming a reality of everyday, where looks and popularity will be essential to determine
who is successful in life. The characters in “Nosedive” rate each other in order to fit into
society.
The rating system causes people in society to have toxic relationships with one another. By
rating others, it impacts the individual’s housing, ability to work, ability to travel, and
relationships with others.
The branding play the biggest role in the episode because they must build their personal
characters to peer-rating. If someone is badly rated, people become suspicious and rate the
person low as well.
Support: For many people, this online self-image has become an important part of
their identity, shaping the way they interact with others and presenting a way of life
that is aspirational and attractive to others.
Reason 2: Another reason why the online world is conducive to building social
relationships is the ease with which we can connect with others who share our interests
and values. This is especially true of online communities and groups, which offer users
the chance to engage with others who share their hobbies, passions, or beliefs.
Support: By fostering these connections, we can expand our social circle beyond our
physical location and find like-minded individuals who can offer us support, advice,
and companionship.
Conclusion: I believe that the lives we lead online will continue to promote a culture
of social relationships, as we seek to expand our circle of friends and create an idealized
self-image through personal branding. This trend is likely to continue as more people
come online and find new ways to connect with others, creating a world that is more
connected and supportive than ever before
Step 4 – Let’s write an English paragraph
write in the forum your paragraph, at least 180 words, that express one of your opinions.
Explain your thinking clearly so that the reader can understand why you hold your opinion.
In my opinion, the increasing prominence of the online world in our lives is both a blessing
and a curse. On the one hand, it offers us unprecedented opportunities for social connection
and personal growth, enabling us to expand our circle of friends, find like-minded
individuals, and promote an idealized self-image through personal branding. This can be a
powerful tool for building our confidence, connecting with others, and achieving our goals.
However, on the other hand, it can also be a source of stress, anxiety, and isolation, as we
become consumed with the pursuit of likes, followers, and validation. It can be all too easy
to get caught up in the pressure to project a certain image online, leading us to neglect our
real-life relationships and priorities. Therefore, I believe it is important to approach the online
world with a balanced perspective, recognizing its potential benefits while also being mindful
of its potential downsides. By doing so, we can make the most of the opportunities it offers
while also staying grounded in the real world and maintaining healthy relationships with
ourselves and others.
Step 5 - After each student has written his/er paragraph, he/she will include a self-
assessment paragraph answering the following questions:
• What did you learn in this task?
• What did you find most interesting about the task?
• What area or topic would you like to find out more about?
• Areas to work on: (grammar / vocabulary / spelling / writing)
In the first place, I consider that during the development of this task I was able to learn how,
based on a thesis or original idea, personal opinion can be given through a structured
paragraph, which allows to better organize this opinion, which allows the reader to better
understand this opinion. On the other hand, I think that both grammar and vocabulary are
very important since they have a practical use in real life, allowing communication with other
people in this second language to be easier.
