What is recycling?
Recycling is the process of turning what one may call garbage into reusable
materials. As an introduction to recycling we can use the so called 3R’s.
REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE.

What recyclable materials can be used for making an outfit?

Cotton- It is biodegradable and a natural fiber. It is very easy to recycle. Cotton,

one of the world’s leading agricultural crops, it is widely popular and provides to the
economy. (Dietrich HS 2022, November 18.) Making cotton products relatively
inexpensive. The fibers can be made into a wide variety of fabrics ranging from
lightweight voiles and laces to heavy sailcloth and thick-piled velveteen. It can be
suitable for apparels and home furniture.

Paper and Plastic- Can be used to make an outfit that requires thinner pieces of
fabric. Paper and plastic is thin and breathable, making it perfect for whatever part
of the outfit that needs to be sheer.
Plastic bags generate 39% less greenhouse gas emissions than composted paper
bags and 68% less greenhouse gas emissions than composted paper bags. Plastic
bags consume less than 6% of the water needed to make paper bags. (

How to design an outfit?

To design and outfit it takes many steps.

Step 1- Outfit inspiration. Getting a clear idea of what you want in your outfit can
help to make an amazing outfit.

Step 2-  Developing your outfit ideas. In this long stage, you can make any needed
edits of your desired outfit. Adding or taking away pieces can help to create the
best version of your vision.

Step 3-  Making a sketch of your outfit. After making a sketch you can get a
clearer idea of your abilities and what you are capable of.

Step 4-  Creating a pattern. Experimenting with patterns on your sketch can help
with finding out what looks good and what doesn't on your desired outfit.
Step 5-  Final sketch. After you are pleased with the outcome of your original
outfit, draw another picture of your outfit, just to get a clear view of the outfit
before sewing it.
