PROJECT WORK
Class : VI class
Subject : General science
Name of the lesson : Fibre to fabric
Name of the project: Waste fabric to worthy item
Strategy : Group
Group leader : Hemalatha,
Group members : Chandana, Anjali, Archana, Usha.
Name of the guide teacher: Smt. K. Manjula SA(Bio)
Aim of the project: To make waste cloth pieces into useful things.
Objectives:
1. Collecting information about waste cloth pieces by interacting with a tailor.
2. Calculating the amount of waste cloth material thrown into the garbage.
3. Analyzing the wastage of cloth pieces in consideration of its production and pollution.
4. Discussing the reusage of waste cloth material
5. Making different things with waste cloth material.
Tools: Questionere
Procedure: In the lesson of Fiber to fabric we have learnt the stages in getting fabric from fiber.
We really wondered about the hard work the people do to come out with an attractive fabric. But
generally we find a lot of cloth is wasted in stitching of a dress by the tailor. So we thought of
finding a solution in its concern. So we would like to undertake the project. As a part of it we went
to a tailor and asked her some questions to get the information about the waste cloth pieces.
QUESTIONERE
1. How many clothes do you stitch per day?
A. Nearly 3 to 4 blouses and some small alterations.
2. What do you stitch generally?
A. I stitch blouses, long frocks, and dresses for kids, etc.
3. Do you get waste pieces of cloth?
A. Yes I get a lot of waste pieces.
4. What do you do with waste pieces?
A. I through it in the dust bin.
5. How much cloth do you get as waste per day? (grams)
A. nearly 500gm
6. Shall I collect all the waste pieces of cloth from you?
A. Yes, by all means.
Analysis: From the above interview we came to know that an average of 500 grams of waste cloth
has been thrown into the dust bin. I have calculated the waste as follows.
Waste per day : 500 gm
Per month: 15000 gm (15 kgs)
Per year : 180 Kgs

We astonished by getting this digit. Nearly 180 kgs of waste has been thrown into the dust bin by
one tailor. We could not imagine the waste by all the tailors in our village. An average of 10
percentage of hard work, labour and economy and time at different stages in getting fabric has been
thrown into dust bin. Not only the waste of time and economy, but also it leads to pollution which
has a major impact on environment.
Conclusion: We, our group members , strongly decided to reuse this waste material. We discussed
among ourselves and with the help of our teacher and our parents, we collected and utilized to make
different things and crafts with the waste pieces of cloth. So we formed in groups of two members
each collected waste pieces of cloth and prepared the above and represented below.

Aknowledgement: We thank our science teacher Smt. K. Manjula mam for guiding us in aproper
manner. We also thank the tailor who co operated for our project. Special thanks to our teacher,
parents and also our friends who have given their valuble suggestions to make crafts with waste
cloth pieces.
