Lecture/Discussion:
 Computers are machines that perform tasks or calculations according to a
set of instructions, or programs.
 The first fully electronic computers, introduced in the 1940’s, were huge
machines that required teams of people to operate.
 Computers work through an interaction of hardware and software.
 Hardware refers to the part of a computer that you can see and touch,
including the case and everything inside it.
 The most important piece of hardware is a tiny rectangular chip inside your
computer called the Central Processing Unit (CPU), or microprocessor. It
is the brain of your computer. The part that translates instructions and
performs calculations.
 Hardware items such us your monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, and other
components are often called hardware devices, or devices.
 Software refers to the instructions or programs, that tell hardware what to
do. A word processing program that you can use to write letters on your
computer is a type of software.
 The Operating System (OS) is a software that manages your computer and
the devices connected to it.
 Two well-known operating systems are Windows and Macintosh operating
system.

4 types of computers:
 Microcomputer – a small desktop or personal computer.
 Minicomputer – these are mid-size computers. Used by small businesses and
B3. Abstraction firms. Example: Laptop, Tablet, Cellphones.
 Mainframe computer – these are large computers, often occupying a large
room. They are generally used by banks, universities, and some government
functions.
 Supercomputer – the most powerful computers. They are very fast and have
extremely high storage capacity, probably in the terra byte (TB) range. Used
in research and weather forecasting.

Here are some of the most popular things to do with computers:

1. The World Wide Web (usually called the Web, or Web) is a gigantic
storehouse of information. The web is the most popular part if the internet,
partly because it displays most information in a visually appealing format.
Headlines, text, and pictures can be combined on a single webpage – much
like a page in a magazine – along with sounds and animations. A website is a
collection of interconnected web pages. The web contains millions and
billions of web pages.
2. Email – is a convenient way to communicate with others.
3. Instant Messaging – is like having a real-time conversation with another
person or a group of people.
4. Pictures, Music, and movies – if you have digital camera, you can move your
pictures from your digital camera to your computers. Then you can print
them or even make a slideshow with music and video embedded to it. You can
also listen music and watch movies to your computer.
5. Gaming – there are lots of games allow you to compete with other players
around the world.

B4. Application  Ask: As a learner, in what way can you make use of computers?
IV. Evaluation  What is a computer?
 What are the types of computer?
 List down some things you can do with a computer.
V. Assignment  What are the parts and functions of a computer?
VII. Reflection
A. No. of students who
earned 80% in the
formative assessment.
B. No. of students who
require Additional
activities for
remediation.
C. Did the remedial
lessons work? No. of
learners who had
caught up with the
lesson.
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation.
E. Which of my teaching
strategies work well?
Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my
principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did
I use discover which I
wish to share with
other teachers?
