ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
3
ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
Boom
-Center rod like structure on which the elements are
mounted.
-Can be conductive or non conductive
4
ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
Driven Element
-Where the transmission line is connected internally through
the black stud.
-Sends or receives the radio waves for the antenna.
5
ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
Reflector
-Single element present at the back of the driven
element.
Reflects the energy towards the direction of radiation
pattern
-blocks waves from one side.
6
ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
Directors/Parasitic Elements
-Other elements before the driven element.
-directs beam towards the desired angle.
-Modify radiation pattern
-makes overall signal stronger.
7
ELEMENTS OF AN ANTENNA
Feeder/Feedline
-Cable that connects the antenna to the
receiver or transmitter.
8

ANTENNA ARRAYS
Element
- Any part of the antenna active in the reception
or transmission of signals.

ANTENNA ARRAYS
The spacing between the elements and length of elements are done according to wavelength.

ANTENNA ARRAYS
Advantages
The signal strength increases
High directivity is obtained
Minor lobes are reduced
High gain is obtained
Power wastage is reduced
Better performance is obtained
22
ANTENNA ARRAYS
Disadvantages
- Mounting and maintenance is difficult.
- Huge external space is required.
