NEWSLETTER
April 2023
Final Push
March has left us with several great
experiences and performances. We made a
return to two great traditions of hosting
Choir and Band Festivals, and our Jazz Band
helped kick-off our competition season.
This month, we are gearing up for several
end of year events. Our 6th and 8th Grade
Choirs will perform on Friday, April 21st at
our district Multicultural Celebration. This is
open to the public and will be hosted here at
EMS from 5:30-7:30pm. There will be a
traditional food potluck and many
presentations.
Over Spring Break, Mr. Jones and I
announced our Spring Trip to Albuquerque
for 7th and 8th Grade groups. To review
details about this trip, head to my website (at
the bottom of this newsletter) and click on
"Spring Trip." We will be heading to
Albuquerque on May 6th and returning the
following day (7th). Students will perform for
ratings before spending the remainder of the
weekend at Hinkles Fun Center and Cliff's
Amusement Park. Scholarships are available.
Looking ahead to May, we will also have our
final 6th Grade Concert with Jazz Band on
May 10th at 6pm.

Band After School Help, or BASH, meets on
Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until
4:30pm, or by appointment with Mr. Smith.
Students can seek out help or simply use the
time for distraction-free practice.
Percussion Club!
Meets every Wednesday after school until
4:30pm. Any interested and motivated
students are welcome to join! Most recently,
we made an introduction to steel pans as we
explore percussion instrument from around
the world.
Weekly Assignments for Band:
I will be rolling out a final flipgrid assignment
schedule for students in the next week or so.
This will help guide us to our end of year
goals and prepare for our final concerts.
