BANGSAMORO CONCEPT OR THE MORO HOMELAND AND NATION

1. Trace the historical basis of the rebellious culture of the Moros leading to the
formulation of Bangsamoro concept or the Moro homeland and nation.
In the retrospect, Muslim separatists always been wanted to be
called as Moro and not a Filipino because they believed that they are not
part of the Philippines. Probably they say that, because 92% of the
Filipinos are conquered with Christianity, from that, their beliefs and
rules that they need to follow would be different and that would be
another conflict to be resolved by the Moros if ever. Hence, they thought
to build another nation that only for them to evade the probable dispute
and in that nation that they want to be established, they will understand
each other as they have the same beliefs and cultures. They also believed
that their homeland was not affiliated in the Philippines and want to have
their own administration that would administer their land.
Furthermore, the Moros have an overdue struggles in claiming the
self-determination of their ancestral domain. They are prevailing the
battles of their ancestors on asserting their homeland’s independence
since the Spanish and American era.
Moreover, they also wanted to be drawn out to the state’s
governance because they are having an inadequate treatment from the
state. They experienced discrimination from their countrymen that treat
them like they are not belong in our country just because of their
educational attainment and social status. They also experience alienation
from the Philippine political and economic development wherein, in my
view, they were not allowed to vote or to participate the candidacy for the
national election and not looking them as people who can contribute for
the Philippines economic growth. Also the right to have a self-
determination because Philippine government think that they are still
part of the Philippines because Mindanao is still part of the Philippine
archipelago and they are also suffering in socio-economic injustices and
deprivation because of the US imperialists and its people that it invited to
dwell and built corporations and factories in their homelands that made
them loot away on their own place.
These reasons are the factors that urge them to formulate the
Bangsamoro (Moro Nation) concept. Through Bangsamoro, they can
protect their other Moro people against the other ethnic groups or people
(even to the Filipinos). The rights that prohibit to them before, now they
can exercise it in their own nation. It also the one of the reason why they
want to be separated to the Philippines therefore, no one can intervene
with them anymore if they were under the Bagsamoro.
