Emergency repair of detoriated manholes

1. Scope

This Method Statement describes the proper work procedure that shall be
carried out during the works for Replacement of rusted manhole

2. Materials

2.1 Natural Soil


2.2 Tack Coat SS1h (bitumen)
2.3 Prime Coat MC-70
2.4 Base Couse
2.5 AC Wearing Course Asphalt.
2.6 Manhole Cover with Frame
2.7 Steel I - Beam

3. Tools & Equipment


3.1 Hand Shovels straight edge
3.2 Asphalt scraper.
3.3 Roller (2.5 tons)
3.4 Plate compactor
3.5 Asphalt saw cutter
3.6 Roller 5 tons.
3.7 Generator and jack hummer.
3.8 Air compressor.

4. Work Procedure

 Safety arrangements to be done at site including traffic diversion and sign


boards with necessary flickering lights.

 Traffic diversion to be done as per RTA standard as shown below.

 Measurements for asphalt cutting will be taken by the surveyors to demark


the asphalt surround the manhole cover.

 Asphalt cutting to proceed with saw cutter with straight cut.

 With the jack hummer the existing asphalt will be broken and removal from
the area with 3 ton tippers.

 Removal of existing damaged manhole cover with slab and Steel I – beam
cart to tip DM yard.

 Fabrication, Supply & Installation of Mild Steel Beam as per Instruction.


Size H Beam 150 x 150 x 31.5 Kg /M x Length 2.5m
Finish : Sandblasting & Rubber coating thick 3mm

 Supply and installation of heavy duty manhole cover with frame

 Supply and spraying of MC-70 prime coat.

 Supply and laying of wearing course of depth 50mm.

 Site clearance and removal of safety measures and opening the road for
traffic.

 Monitoring the area for 3 days to insure everything is according to


standard.

6. Safety
6.1 All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction as set in
out in project Safety Plan and Municipality rules and regulation.
6.2 Basic Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) shall be worn by all staff
or laborers.
6.3 All electrical equipment’s to be checked by an electrician before
starting the work.
6.4 Heavy machines to have banks man at all times to avoid any clashes.
6.5 Traffic to be managed smoothly to avoid clashes and traffic
congestion.
