What does it mean to be a citizen of the

world?
In today´s world with globalization the concept of being a citizen not of your own country if
not from the world is becoming more popular. But what is the real meaning of being a
citizen of the world? In in this text we are going to discuss how a person can be considered a
citizen of the world.
First we need to ask ourselves if we need to have different experiences in different countries
to be a global citizen. It obviously is important to have a multicultural perspective, for
example knowing different languages is a positive aspect because you can see the world
from a different lens. But we can´t affirm that having different experiences around the globe
make you a global citizen, because a person that travels around the world does not have an
open mindset and another that has not been outside of their country has a more tolerant
mindset because the education that he receives.
Another important aspect is if we need to be aware of what is happening in different parts
of the world to be a global citizen. Due to globalisation in today´s world through the internet
there is an easy way to know what is happening in areas of the world that are hundreds of
kilometres away from our country, so we can all agree that with today´s facilities you do not
have an excuse to not know what is happening in our planet.
In conclusion ,from my point of view for being a citizen of the world you need to have two
qualities: first you need to have an open mindset to be able to accept and respect different
perspectives of seeing the world, and to be aware of what is happening around the globe.
