Team Body For The Win! Day 4

Grade: 1
Standards

10.1.3.B: Identify and know the location and function of the major body organs and
systems: circulatory, respiratory, muscular, skeletal, digestive.
Essential Question

Where are some of the organs located in the body?

Objectives
Students will be able to identify correct locations of the designated organs and body
systems.
Students will be able to budget accordingly to appropriately receive all the organs for
their craft.
Materials & Equipment
Inside Your Outside Book
Full body cut-out
Fake Organs
Colored Pencils
Glue
Fake coins
Procedures
A. Introduction
Tell the students that we only have a few more days of the unit. Tell them that we will
come back to focusing on the whole body and start to focus on the locations of the
organs.
B. I Do
Start off by having a read aloud with the book “Inside Your Outside” by Tish Rabe. Point
out what the different organs are functioning and how they are working together. Also,
take note of the directions of the body that the Cat is leading them to to help them
identify locations.
C. We Do
Explain to the students that we will be doing a craft and activity. Hand out all the
materials that are needed for this project. Each student should have a full body paper
cut-out, colored pencils, and 2 quarters, 2 dimes, 4 nickels, and 10 pennies . Explain to
them that I will be acting as the clerk and will be selling the paper organs to fill in your
cut-out. Explain that they will have to earn money by building your man/woman. You
should start off with the face and all the body parts on their face. This will earn you a
dollar. I have a list of how much each organ is on my desk. You look at what you can
buy and you buy it and add it to your person. You earn money by installing that specific
12

organ and it has to be neat and in the correct location of the body.. Keep coming up and
earning money in order to have all the organs.
D. You Do
Have the students complete the activity and actively be the clerk selling the organs for
the students. Hand out the change to the students. The point is to earn and have them
count the change and understand coin math.
E. Closure
Make sure to add some positive reinforcement. Tell the students that these will be
placed on the bulletin board and to take a look at them everyday. Let them remember
that when they eat something they are using their digestive system or they are
breathing because of their respiratory system.
F. Assessment/Evaluation
For this activity, I will be evaluating how they are paying me with their coins and making
sure they are identifying and counting the coins correctly. Then, I will be evaluating
where they are placing the organs on their body.

Special Considerations
A. Early Finishers
Allowed to color in their body or help me be the clerk or independent reading time
B. Remediation
I will be actively a part of the class and will be able to walk around the classroom to
assist the students. I can provide them bigger coins to make it easier to count.
C. Enrichment
For enrichment, I want them to label each of the parts and organs
