Instructions:
O 1. Divide the students into groups of 5.
2. Fill the jar with water, leaving some space at the top.
R 3. Add red food coloring powder to the water and stir until it is well mixed.
4. Cut off the neck of the balloon and create 2 small holes near the opening that

5. Insert one end of a straw into each hole in the balloon, making sure they are
secure.
6. Tape the uncut end of the balloon neck around one of the straws to seal it
tightly.
7. Hold the jar with one hand and gently press the center of the balloon with the
other hand.
8. Observe and discuss what happens to the balloon as you press it.

Materials Needed:
- Index cards or small pieces of paper
- Marker or pen
Instructions:
1. Prepare index cards or small pieces of paper. Write one of the following func-
tions of the heart on each card:
a. Pumping oxygenated blood to the body
b. Pumping deoxygenated blood to the lungs
c. Maintaining blood flow and circulation
2. Shuffle the cards and distribute them randomly to the students.
3. Instruct the students to walk around the classroom and find their two class-
mates who have the other two functions of the heart.
4. Once they find their group members, ask the students to form a small group
with their classmates who have the matching functions.
5. In their groups, have the students discuss and share examples or explanations
of how the heart performs their assigned function.
6. After a few minutes, bring the whole class together and ask each group to
share one example or explanation for their assigned function.
7. Facilitate a class discussion to reinforce the understanding of the three main
functions of the heart. Clarify any misconceptions and provide additional exam-
ples if needed.
8. Conclude the activity by summarizing the three main functions of the heart
and emphasizing their importance in maintaining overall health.
