Lesson Plan in English – Grade 10

LC: EN10LT-IVc-2.2.3: Determine the tone, mood, technique, and purpose of the author.

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the given period, the Grade 10 students shall have:

a. identified the different principles of speech delivery by answering the given


questions on the evaluation;
b. internalized the essence of principles of speech delivery by sharing personal
opinions; and
c. delivered a given excerpt depending on various moods.

II. LEARNING CONTENT / SUBJECT MATTER

A. Title: Principles of Speech Delivery


B. References: Oral Communication Textbook (pp. 67-72), https://brainly.com.ph
C. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Printed Pictures, Simulation, Visual Aids

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCES / METHODOLOGY

A. Preliminary Activities
• Prayer
• Greetings
• Checking of Attendance
• Review of the past lesson (Types of Speech)

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity (Motivation)
Let the students play the game: “Mood Changes”
• The class will be divided into four (4) groups.
• Each group must select one representative.
• The selected one will present/deliver an excerpt by
depending on the moods that will be given by the teacher.
• The class will be given a minute to prepare.
• The activity must be done accordingly.

Criteria:
Tone – 5 pts.
Clarity – 5 pts.
Total: 10 pts.

2. Activity Proper (Additional Activity – Teacher’s Prerogative)


Let the students reawake their creativity: “Excerpt Making”
• The same group will be considered.
• The teacher will assign an example of speech to each group
(Valedictory, Eulogy, Welcome Address, & Advertisement).
• Let each group create an excerpt with at least 3 sentences.
• The students will be given 3 minutes to complete the task.
• Let the students know that the excerpt will be rated
accordingly.

Criterion:
Content – 5 pts.

4. Analysis
• The teacher will ask each group about their prior knowledge
of the Principles of Speech Delivery.
• The teacher will also ask the students about the things that
should be considered when delivering a speech.
• Have the students relate it to personal experiences.

5. Abstraction
• The teacher will present the topic to the class with visual
aids supported by a PowerPoint Presentation.
• The discussion will take place once the details below are
already posted on the board:

Articulation – you must really open your mouth in order to


distinctly enunciate the different words.
Modulation – you should vary the speech in order to
strengthen or reinforce the message.
Stage Presence – it involves the speaker’s appearance,
projection, and manner on the stage.
Facial Expressions – the speaker’s facial expression
should not contradict his/her verbal message.
Gestures and Movements – it is ought to signal the
transition from one idea to what is next.
Rapport with the Audience – refers to the engagement of
the audience and connecting with them.

• Afterwards, the teacher will select two students to share their


personal thoughts about the importance of the Principles of
Speech Delivery with the class.
• The teacher will add information and examples about the
essence of each principle, relating the topic to the pandemic
that we are facing right now.

6. Application
The activity entitled “Deliver Me Appropriately” will be introduced:
• Same groups will be considered.
• The excerpts from the previous activity will be distributed randomly.
• The teacher will make sure not to give an excerpt to the group that
created it.
• The students will be given 3 minutes to prepare.
• Instruct each group to select one representative to deliver the
excerpt assigned to them appropriately.
(Valedictory, Eulogy, Welcome Address, and Advertisement)
• The excerpt must be delivered appropriately in accordance with the
Principles of Speech Delivery.
• The flow of the activity must be done accordingly.

Criteria:
Articulation - 2 pts.
Modulation - 2 pts.
Stage Presence - 2 pts.
Facial Expression - 2 pts.
Rapport with the Audience – 2 pts.
Total – 10 pts.

IV. LEARNING ASSESSMENT / EVALUATION

Instruction: In a 1/2 crosswise, identify the principle of speech delivery that is


being asked in each sentence below.

_____ 1. It refers to the manipulation of the rate, pitch, and volume of the voice to
denote mood and meaning.
_____ 2. Establish this by approaching the stage with confidence and smile.
_____ 3. Make sure to express correct emotion for this principle.
_____ 4. Stand straight and keep your feet flat on the floor.
_____ 5. It is vital because it adds to the message that you are conveying.

6-10. Write a dialogue about multiple people engaging in a confabulation about


the latest issues in our society. Make sure to emphasize the tones.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Instruction: In a ½ crosswise, write an essay about the importance of Speech


Delivery Principles in your state as a student to be submitted tomorrow.
