Lesson Plan in Science – Grade 4

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the given period, the Grade 4 students shall have:

a. identified the three states of matter;

b. followed properly the safety rules in their activity; and
c. applied the knowledge about the three states of matter in their group activity.

II. LEARNING CONTENT / SUBJECT MATTER

A. Title: Three States of Matter: Solid, Liquid, Gas

B. References: Matter Comes In All Shapes by Amy S. Hansen Textbook,
https://byjus.com/chemistry/three-states-of-matter/
C. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Printed Pictures, Simulation, Visual Aids

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCES / METHODOLOGY

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Review of the past lesson (Simple Machine)

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity (Motivation)
Let the students experiment: “Balloon Blow-Up”
 The class will be divided into three (3) groups.
 Groups should start the given task experiment.
 Each group must select one representative.
 The selected one will share their task about what are
their reactions/observations with that given task.
 The class will be given 10 minutes to prepare.
 The activity must be done accordingly.

Criteria:
Tone – 5 pts.
Clarity – 5 pts.
Total: 10 pts.

2. Analysis
 The teacher will tell and ask the students "Class, I want
you to look around you. Could you look at your right? To
your left, behind you, in front of you?"
 Afterwards, the teacher will also ask the students "What
did you see?
 Have the students relate it to personal experiences.
3. Abstraction
 The teacher will present the topic to the class with
visual aids supported by a PowerPoint Presentation.
 The discussion will take place once the details below are
already posted on the board:
Matter is anything that occupies space and has weight.

Solid – is a state of matter that retains its shape and

density when not confined.
Liquid – is a type of matter with specific properties that
make it less rigid than a solid but more rigid than a gas. A
liquid can flow and does not have specific shape like solid.
Instead, a liquid conforms to the shape of the container in
which it is held.
Gas – A gas is a substance that has no fixed size or
shape.

 Afterwards, the teacher will test the student's strengths

and weaknesses by having a short activity or assessment
on the board. This assessment entitled "Put Me Where I
Belong" which the learners will volunteer to place the
printed pictures to which column it is belong. The column
will be shown; Solid, Liquid, Gas.
 The teacher will add more information and examples
about the Three States of Matter.

4. Application
The activity entitled “Colorful Dots to Represent Atoms” will be
introduced:
 Same groups will be considered.
 The teacher will give a cardboard with a column in it: Solid,
Liquid, Gas. Instruct each group to make a representation of the
atom in each state of matter using the colorful dots.
 Let each group do the given task.
 The students will be given 5 minutes to prepare.

Criteria:
Pacing - 2 pts.
Volume - 2 pts.
Tone - 2 pts.
Body Language - 2 pts.
Eye contact – 2 pts.
Total – 10 pts.
