IV Semester B.E. Examination

(School of Electronics and Communication Engineering)
Electromagnetic Fields & Waves (21EECC209/20EEIC215)

Duration: 3 hours Max. Marks: 100

Note: i) Answer any TWO full questions from UNIT-I, any TWO full questions from UNIT-II
and any ONE full question from UNIT-III.
ii) Use Smith chart for the problems in the third unit

UNIT-I
1 a. Explain electric field due to continuous charge distribution. (10marks)
b. Point charge 1mC and -2mC are located at (3, 2, -1) and (-1, -1, 4) respectively.
Calculate the electric force on a 10nC charge located at (0, 3, 1) and the electric (10marks)
field intensity at that point.
2 a. Describe dielectric-dielectric boundary conditions and write the law of refraction
of electric field at boundary free of charge. (10marks)
b. State and explain the following with neat diagram and mathematical equations
(10marks)
(i)Biot-Savart’s law (ii)Ampere’s circuital law
3 a. Explain (i)Uniqueness theorem (ii)Polarization in dielectrics (10marks)
b. Two conducting spherical shells with radii a=10cm and b=30cm are maintained at
potential difference of 100V such that V(r=b)=0 and V(r=a)=100V. Determine V
and E in the region between the shells. If relative permitivity is 2.5 in the region, (10marks)
determine the total charge induced on these shells and the capacitance of the
capacitor.
UNIT-II
4 a. Derive the boundary conditions at the interface between two magnetic materials
of different permeabilities. (10marks)
b. A charge particle of mass 2kg and charge 3C starts at point (1, -2, 0) with velocity
4 ax + 3 az m/s in electric field 12 ax + 10 ay V/m. At time t=1s, determine
