SMALL GROUPS’ STUDY
THE JOY OF SERVING
Biblical reference: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In
all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your
partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confi-
dent of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to
completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1.3-6)
Text explanation: this is a personal letter to the Philippians and was
not intended to circulate among all other churches, such as the let-
ter to the Ephesians. Paul wanted to thank the believers for having
helped him when he needed it. He also wanted to tell them how he
could be so full of joy despite his imprisonment and impending ju-
dgment. In such a stimulating letter, Paul counsels the Philippians
to be humble and united, and warns them against potential future
problems.
Discussion
• When other people think of you, what comes to their minds? Do
they remember you with joy?
• Do your acts of kindness serve to inspire and encourage people spi-
ritually?
Context: “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy be-
cause of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,”
(Philippians 1.4,5). This is the first of many times that Paul uses the
word “joy” in his letter. The Philippians were remembered with joy
and thanksgiving every time Paul prayed. The work of God for us be-
gan when Christ died in our place on the cross and his work within us

The teenagers’ small groups of Lagoinha headquarters will be in
recess beginning on December 17, 2017. As a result, no small group
studies will be published for teenagers in this period. The small
groups that remain are conducted during recess may use the small
group studies available in the 2018 Lagoinha’s agenda or recapitulate
some study we had during the year. In 2018 new studies will be pu-
blished, always in agreement with the subjects studied by Lagoinha’s
small groups and keeping the last meeting of each month, free.

begins when we believe in Him. Now the Holy Spirit lives in us and
allows us to be, each day, more Christlike. All Christians are part of
God’s family and therefore equally share in the transforming power
of His love.
Conclusion: Paul is describing the process of growth and maturity
of the Christian, which began when we accepted Jesus and will con-
tinue until his return. Do you sometimes think you are not making
progress in your spiritual life? When God begins a project, He con-
cludes it. As with the Philippians, God will help you to grow in grace
until He completes the work in your life. When you feel discouraged,
remember that God will not give you up. He promised to complete
the work that He began. When you feel incomplete or disturbed by
your weaknesses, remember the promise and provision of God. Do
not let your present situation rob you of the joy of knowing Christ or
of keeping you closer to Him.
Application: Paul ruled his life in serving the Lord by dedicating him-
self to the work of Christ and perpetuating it in his teachings. We all
have goals, purposes, targets that we seek to achieve by the mercy of
the Lord according to the strategies and plans of action we draw in
our daily lives, in different areas of our lives.

ISRAEL
The decision of the American president Donald Trump, to recognize Je-
rusalem as the capital of Israel by the US caused rebellion and protests
in many places of the world. The announcement made on Wednesday
(6th) caused critical reactions from political and religious leaders. Je-
rusalem is considered a sacred city for jewish, christians and muslims
that fight for the city. The israelis and palestinians claim Jerusalem as
the capital of their territories in a conflict that has lasted more than 70
years ago in history.
The recognition of Trump is liked by Israel, but arabic leaders and the
palestinians warned that it will cause damage to the peace process. It
was to ensure the effectiveness of the dialogues of peace in the Middle
East, is that the international community has never recognized the sove-
reignty of Israel over the city.
However the decision of the president may have been fostered by evan-
gelical christians, since there exists an important involvement of evange-
licals in international politics, the role of the church is to pray, intercede,
especially, for peace.

A place of growth in the Word and restoration of life through the Spirit.
This is Lagoinha Porto, in Portugal. Under the leadership of Pastor Jean Car-
los, the church was founded in September 2015 and currently has about 120
members. Thinking of perfecting the Body of Christ through teaching, eight

small groups and a school of leaders are in operation, and in January the
“Carisma Challenge” project - whose purpose is theological training - will ar-
rive in the Portuguese city. In addition, the church has been promoting con-
ferences such as the European Continental Congress, held in partnership
with the Ministry “Gideões Mirins”, and the “Confrajovem” (youth congress),
which were held in recent weeks.
According to Pastor Jean, not only the Portuguese nation, but also
christians from Germany, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, England, Poland and Swit-
zerland were very blessed during the Gideon event. “Pastor Angela Valadão Confrajovem

shared much about intimacy, devotional life and the importance of prayer in
these last times for the preparation of the coming of Christ,” said the pastor.

LAGOINHA RECEIVES HOMAGE FROM THE CITY COUNCIL
OF BELO HORIZONTE FOR ITS 60 YEARS
On December 9, our church was honored at the City
Council of Belo Horizonte for its 60th birthday, celebrated
on December 20th. The solemnity was requested by Pastor
Fernando Borja, who started the meeting commenting on
the importance of Lagoinha. “God chose the Lagoinha Bap-
tist Church for a revival of history in this nation. This church
is a prayer response. Lagoinha Baptist Church honors God
and inspires people, “he says. The event had the purpose of
honoring the Lagoinha Baptist Church for the works deve-
loped in those 60 years. Pastors Márcio and André Valadão
received a plaque of honor and several pastors and workers
who represent ministries of our church were honored with
a parchment of honor to the merit. The solemnity was the
release of our institutional video, presentation of two songs
given by the corals Kerigma and El Shamah, a dance given by

the Rocha ministry and a prayer given by the pastor Angela
Valadão.
Pastor Márcio gave a beautiful word: “We have great gra-
titude to the Lord. There is always a new opportunity to start
over. There is nothing more beautiful under the sky than the
church. Lagoinha is an extension of the church. The result
today is the fruit of the Lord’s mercy and fruit of His work,
because without Him we can do nothing, “he points out. Pas-
tor André Valadão commented with joy on the importance
of this homage: “We will see 10% of our city taken care of
by Lagoinha. Our church is recognized among the five most
recognized by the internet. We have no other longing, but a
revival in our city and other nations.

WHAT DOES SALVATION HAVE TO DO WITH MONEY?
People are not willing to lose things to win Christ, as
the rich young man from Matthew 19, from verse 16: “And,
behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what
good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he
said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good
but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the
commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou
shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou
shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, honour thy
father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have
I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him,
If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to
the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come
and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying,
he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.”
This young man didn’t choose to give up the riches of this
life to attach only into God’s grace. God isn’t against wealth,
nobody isn’t save by being rich, but by the love of money. And
also about the same subject we can find another true and ac-
curate teaching on the Bible: “For we brought nothing into
this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And
having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they

that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into
many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruc-
tion and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil:
which while some coveted after, they have erred from the
faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
(1 Timothy 6.7-10).
The love of money starts the path to eternal destruction.
The man that spends all his money to please himself, and ne-
ver to relieve the pain of the afflicted, doesn’t act correctly.
I have a question for you: What will be your soul’s destiny?
Having money or not, doesn’t bring salvation to anyone. It
also doesn’t lead to hell. Salvation only comes through Jesus.
In this Christmas period stores are full of people, the access to
the mall is complicated and stressful. People are on a rush all
day long, but what is the Savior’s place in all this? What else
could God have done to save the man? Heaven got “empty”,
Jesus came exactly to save the man. If God gives you riches
and possessions and let you enjoy them, be happy with what
you received and with your work. It’s a gift from God. But,
don’t forget, your faith is your real rich!

Jesus smile

Live in Lagoinha Church is to take part in the history of the
Church of Christ. I met Jesus in a congregation of Lagoinha Church
at Cidade Nova neighborhood, in 1983, in a vacation Bible School.
Through Pastor Eduardo Vilas Boas’ wife, June, I learned about the
love of Christ and said yes to the new life beside Him.
Since the beginning, the vocation of our church was: inspire
lives, touch people, be a powerful tool of social, spiritual and phy-
sical transformation. I grew up listening to the words and reading
the books of Pr. Marcio. I saw my father accept Jesus and become
an evangelist. I used to accompany him in vigils (I usually slept of
course, “everyone needs a break”, I was just a child), in group pre-
sentations and street evangelism. Later on I was so impacted; I was
cold and uncommitted, but I heard the song “Manancial” by Diante
do Trono Ministry, the tears fell torrentially and along them the re-
pentance and restoration came. During this process, I met my futu-
re wife and I went back to attend the service at “Lagoinha Church
Headquarter”. I believed that after getting married we would keep
attending at our church at Cidade Nova neighborhood, but that re-
minds me another brand of Lagoinha: the service and care. Throu-
gh the life of Pr. Leozão I began to get so involved in Lagoinha Chur-
ch, in the Youth Ministry, in the SG’s and at the University League
Ministry, that when I got married I had no way back. Our church has
this power to make the call grows for those who seek the Kingdom.
In 2006 there came the ordained pastoral ministry and in 2012 the
integral service. My dear brother; there is no way; if you are diligent
and dedicated in loving and promoting the kingdom of God, He will
use you mightily in our beloved Church.
We can learn a lot in giving ourselves happily to the will of
our Lord. I praise God for you to be part of this story. Praise God for
the angel of our church, pastor and father Marcio Valadão, who has
with boldness and courage, followed the direction of the Father and
with this, he has ensured that His direction has been fulfilled for 45
years. We pray for the long life of our church. Let’s celebrate, but
continue moving forward, always looking for one purpose: to make
JESUS SMILE!
