SMALL GROUPS’ STUDY
CHRISTIAN UNITY
Biblical reference: “Therefore if you have any encouragement from
being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common
sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my
joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in
spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain con-
ceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to
your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your
relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God some-
thing to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by be-
coming obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exal-
ted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every
name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and
on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2.1-11)
Text explanation: Philippi was a cosmopolitan city, and the compo-
sition of the church reflected its great diversity, with people of various
levels. Of various origins, formation and living conditions. Chapter 16 of
Acts gives us an indication of the diversified composition of this church.
It included Lydia, a converted Jewess from Asia and a prosperous busi-
ness woman (Acts 16.14), and also included a slave girl (Acts 16.16,17),
probably born in Greece; besides the jailer who served in this colony
of the empire, perhaps of Roman origin (Acts 16.25-36). With so many
members from different origins and backgrounds, it must have been
very difficult to maintain unity. Although there was no evidence of divi-
sions in the church, the unity needed to be maintained (3.2; 4.2).

Context: people often justify their selfishness, pride, or malice as having
a right to such feelings. They think, “I can cheat on this test; after all, I
deserve to be approved”, or “I can spend all that money on myself - I
worked hard for it”, or “I can have an abortion because I have the right
to control my own body”. But as believers, we must adopt a different
attitude, the one that allows us to leave aside our rights, in order to serve
others. If we say that we follow Christ, we must also say that we want
to live as He lived. We should develop His attitude of humility when we
serve, even if we probably do not receive any recognition for our efforts.
Conclusion: most people are worried about making a good impression
on others, or please themselves, but selfishness brings discord, a break
with the sense of community, of sharing. Paul insists on spiritual unity,
asking the Philippians to love one another and unite in spirit and pur-
pose. When we work together, taking care of the problems of our fellow
men as if they were ours, we reveal the example of Christ by putting
others first and by living in unity. Do not worry so much about making a
good impression, or satisfying your needs, to the point of wavering your
relationship with the family of God.
Application: to be like Christ, we must condition ourselves to seek
thinking like Him. In order to change our desires and attain this likeness,
we need the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us (1.19). We need
the influence of faithful Christians, obedience to the Word of God (and
not just being exposed to it) and sacrificial service. Most of the time, it
is doing God’s will that we develop the desire to keep doing His will (see
4.8,9). Do the will of the Lord, delight yourself in Him and He will give you
the desires your heart.

PAKISTAN

Located in south-central Asia, Pakistan has to the north a stretch of the
Himalayan ridge, where is the second highest peak in the world, the K-2.
Most of the population lives in the Indus valley, where cotton and wheat
are grown. Involved in the 2001 war waged by the United States (US), the
home of members of the Taliban Islamic militia - persecuted in Afghanistan
- has a history marked by political-religious conflicts. Violence is also part of
domestic politics, in ethnic conflicts and rivalries between Sunni (majority)
Muslims and Shiites.
Last Sunday (17), two gunmen attacked the Bethel Memorial Methodist
church in the town of Quetta. Eight people died, and 45 were injured. There

was firefight and a vial with bombs was detonated at the beginning of the
religious services, when about 400 people were in the place.
• Pray for the families of the victims and for the recovery of the wounded in
the attack;
• Call on the Lord for the end of the violence;
• Pray for Quetta, the capital and largest city of Baluchistan, one of the pro-
vinces in the country that suffers most from terrorist attacks.

Children are not the Church of the future; they are the Church of today!
Knowing this, the Lagoinhas Braga (Portugal), Panama City (Panama) and
Medellin (Colombia) have invested in the little Lord Jesus. In the case of the
church of Panama City, a study has been done a few months ago with the
community of Curundú and, this month, a celebration was held at the site

for the 152 children who were indexed to the patronage of new clothes and
footwear. “The Brazilian community that lives here and some Panamanian
and Venezuelan patronize great part of this group. Those who have not been
sponsored received a toy and had a moment of meal for everyone. It was a
very good day! We can see the manifestation of God’s love by means of this Lagoinha Medellín

project,” says pastor Fabiano Alves, leader of the Lagoinha City of Panama.
In Medellín, a house was built exclusively for the children’s acti-
vities. And, when these children joins, does not give another: it is art on the
right! “We face painting, handcrafting, painting on canvas, sing, Minister... In
all, there were 25 children from the community,” details the pastor Ramiro
Chagas, responsible for the Lagoinha Medellin.
Already in the city of Braga, also had a feast for the children and

MELHOR IDADE MINISTRY

CELEBRATES THE END OF THE YEAR

The Melhor Idade*(the best age ministry that helps the el-
derly people) Ministry ended the year with a lovely/beautiful
party. At the occasion, there was a moment of farewell to Pra.
Regina Estrela, who has affectionaly been in charge of this work
for 8 years, alongside with Pr. Paulo Cezar. From now on she
will continue her ministry ahead of the Lagoinha Horto, and
Pra. Madalena and the Elas ministry team will take over and
keep on the projects of the ministry. Much work, joy and chal-
lenges in which more than 150 lives are monthly accompanied/
consorted with visits, treatments, supper celebrations at hos-
pitals and at home, discipleships, travelings, flute/painting/wo-
men’s choral/worship groups/dancing classes and much more.
The mission of Melhor Idade ministry is to help public aged
55 and over to keep body and mind active, cooperate to impro-

vement of cognitive functions and approach the to God. The
team that leads this ministry is willing to help in every possible
way, so that the benefited may find at Casa da Honra confort,
joy, support and affection. You, who know an elder, carry him/

ments of communion and learning. We the Lord for the time
we had Pra. Regina with us, and praise Him for Pra. Madalena’s

The word of God says that everything comes from God and
from his own hands we give back. When we give our tithes and of-

God could’ve done it all alone, but he chose to bless us.
We celebrate Christmas this week and remember that the Bible
talks about the wise men that came from the middle east to bring
Jesus gifts during his birth. Jesus didn’t need anything, but these
wise men took their offerings to him: incense, gold and myrrh. The
attitude those men had certified that Jesus would have a triplicate
ministry as a prophet, high priest and king. They recognized who
Jesus was. The myrrh represented the ministry of Jesus as a high
priest, the incense, as a prophet, and the gold as a king. On that
same day, God knew Joseph and Mary needed to leave that place
with the child so they would not be killed by Herod, who had de-
creed a law to kill all the boys who were younger than two years
old. They fled to Egypt, but needed money to survive. Jesus was
powerful to transform the gold he received from the wise men in

great quantity of money, but he wanted to bless us and teach us a
principle: everything we do in His name is registered. When you
give your tithes and offerings, your obeying the will of the Lord.
These attitudes are opportunities that remain. There is nothing we
can do in His name that will not have a reward.
The word says in Revelation 14:13 “Blessed are the dead
who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will
rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” What are
our deeds? One of them is this: when we faithfully bring our tithes.
God is God and he could do everything differently, but he has alwa-
ys wanted to bless us. We are the sowers. A tenth of everything we
receive is our tithe for the Lord, our offerings are an expression
of our love from Him, this is why we should always give our best
to the Lord, with faithfulness, and all these things will remain for
eternity.

Lagoinha celebrates 60 years and receives a tribute of the
three government levels for the relevance of their work.

Our church celebrated 60 years of foundation on the 20th of
December and was honored by the three levels of government (mu-
nicipal, state and federal), in recognition of the work carried out,
which serve the community in various aspects and generates social
transformation, such as the rehabilitation of those incarcerated in
the prison system of the brazilian and so many others.
Day 9 of December we were honored at the town Hall, in a me-
eting requested by pastor and councilman Fernando Borja. Already
on the 15th of December, was the opportunity to receive the tribute
of the Legislative Assembly of MG, in a solemnity required by the
pastor and state representative Vanderlei Miranda, who handed it
to pastor Márcio three boards, being: a tribute to the 60 years of La-
goinha, another by the 45 years of the pastorate in our church, and
the last directed to pastora Renata Valadão.
On the morning of the 20th, our church was honored at the Na-
tional Congress in Brasília (DF). Several pastors of Lagoinha were in
place to receive the honor. The members of parliament present at
the location spoke about the history of Lagoinha and the impact of
their work. In a solemn session requested by congressman George
Hilton, the pastor Márcio Valadão ministered the Word of God to the
present, based on the text from Isaiah 62, leaving the message that
Brazil will be changed when the people give themselves to Jesus:
“When a brazilian converts, Brazil is being changed. Here are our
permanent commitment to pray for that Brasilia and the decisions
here taken to touch the values of eternity here on earth”.
In the evening of day 20, in the temple of Lagoinha, was held a
worship service in thanksgiving for 60 years. It was a time to thank

God for all that He did in this period. “The 60 years is a milestone, a
walk, a memorial, but not an arrival. We were not able to translate
into words the purpose of God. Our church was born in the heart
of the Lord, with the vocation to be an inspiration.If I’m here today
is by the goodness of the Father. Our church is big to serve you and
small to care. May God help us to always seek His glory above all
things. My gratitude to God, for all the tributes and all that has ha-
ppened at Lagoinha” highlights.he event ended with the brothers
kneeling during a prayer of gratitude to God, conducted by the pas-
tor Ezenete Rodrigues.
Lagoinha was honored by all the institutions mentioned above,
to be a religious reference in Brazil that brings social transforma-
tion to the lives of thousands of people. Our church is dedicated to
the community with jobs assistance through various projects. Ser-
vices are offered as vocational courses, social and digital inclusion,
legal assistance, restoration of the homeless and rehabilitation of
people in prison, in addition to impacts on the sector of the arts.
These actions cover all of the age groups of the population and
the various classes of society, offering a new story, with dignity, to
these people. Our aim is to provide restoration, healing and growth
in all areas of life through the transforming power of the Word of
God. The main purpose is to bring the message of the gospel, which
is able to generate transformations, able to renew lives. May God

Jesus
From the point of view of the scriptures, the Savior was
born, died, rose again and lives today
The birth of Jesus, the Messiah, as presented in the scrip-
tures, begins with the record of God’s affirmation for the ser-
pent and Eve in the garden of Eden in relation to a descen-
dant of the woman who would step on the serpent’s head.
(Genesis) The fall of Adam and Eve, from an immaculate state
of purity, produced a state of separation from man and God,
bringing condemnation upon for mankind, and only con-
demnation, nothing more being to man rights. But God, in his
infinite love and mercy, went in search of man and presented
to him a magnificent plan of salvation, which was to be fulfil-
led at the birth and death of the descendant of the woman,
Jesus Christ the redeemer of mankind.
This birth would not be immediately, it would be
announced by a society, a society chosen by God, who would
come through his culture to present Jesus to the world. This
society is Israel where its patriarchs, kings and prophets an-
nounced this glorious event. Jacob who had his name chan-
ged to Israel prophesied about his son Judah: “The scepter
shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler from his feet, until
Shiloh come; and to him shall the people be gathered toge-
ther “(Genesis 49:10). Centuries later David is born, a king
in Israel where his lineage will proceed the Messiah, just as
announced by Jacob. And within this kingdom prophets an-
nounced such a great event. Micaiah announced to the city
where the savior was to be born: “And you, Bethlehem Ephra-
thah, though I am small among the thousands of Judah, out

of thee shall come forth that shall rule in Israel, and whose
goings forth are from of old, from everlasting “(Micah 5: 2).
Prophecy so well respected that even the “crazy” king Herod
sought through Micah’s writings the location of the child’s
birth to find it and kill it.
Even as the savior was buried, the prophet Isaiah
announced precisely centuries earlier: “ He was assigned a
grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though
he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.”(I-
saiah 53: 9). Christ was born fulfilling many prophecies, our
savior has conquered death, today he is at the right hand of
the Father and he cares for us. In the face of so many hits,
the scriptures did not give us the exact date of birth, some
say that between April and March, others say that between
September and October, but it was established by the Roman
phase of Christianity that would be on December 25th.
We do not care about the date, but with this event
so glorious, so majestic, the Savior was born, died, rise and
lives today, lives forever, and one day will come to establish
his Kingdom. “And many nations shall go and say, Come, let
us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the
God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, and walk in his
paths; for out of Zion shall the law go out, and the word of
the Lord from Jerusalem “(Isaiah 2: 3).

It is time to take stock of everything we have done, to evaluate

our performance against the goals proposed at the beginning,
and a good time to celebrate the union with the family of
faith. Nothing better than starting 2018 on our knees in
prayer, consecrating our life to the Lord, thanking us for all our
deliverances and giving our next 365 days to God.
