DETAILED LESSON PLAN

GRADE 8 ENGLISH
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, student will be able to:
A. Identify modal verbs.
B. Appreciate the value of modal verb in real life by composing an informative essay.
C. Use modal verbs in constructing a dialogue

III.PROCDURE
A. Motivation
The demonstrator will play an audio visual presentation of a song which contains lyrics
related to the topic. After singing the demonstrator will ask a few questions about the song
 What is the song all about?
 Can you identify the colored words in the video?

B. Routines:
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Classroom management
C. Lesson Proper
The demonstrator will present the lesson objectives. Then proceed to the discussion. The
demonstrator will show a picture of a student having a conversation and the ask the following
questions:
 Which of the two statements would make a person below 21 years old feel sadder?
D. APPLICATION
The demonstrator will divide the class into two (2) groups. Each group will create an
informative essay about "Positive Thoughts on Mental Illness and Its Effect to People". They
will use modals appropriately and cite their references. Before they start the activity, the
teacher will first show the criteria for the students to be guided with their task.

CRITERIA
Critical understanding of materials 15%
Organization of thoughts 10%
Appropriate use of modals 10%
TOTAL 35%

E. Generalization
The teacher will generate the activity and ask the following questions:
 What was the dialogue looks like without modal verbs?
 How were you able to write a dialogue using modal verbs?
 What are the modal verbs being used in the dialogue of the Group 1-2?

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Choose the correct word that would best complete the sentence. Write the letter of
your answer on a ½ lengthwise sheet of paper.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Look at the table below. Base from the meaning of the modal in column A, write the
appropriate modal verb for column B and its sample sentence in column C. Write your
