Transmission of Undesignated Distress Alert in Inmarsat C


 Send a Distress Alert by opening the lid and pressing the botton on the
transceiver for a period of five seconds.
 During the five seconds the distress button is pressed down the alarm indication
light on the transceiver starts blinking and the terminal built- in buzzer starts to
beep.
 After this period of five seconds the indication light will steadily go on and the
buzzer will be silent.
 Then after that there will be an acknowledgement notification that will pop up
saying that the USCG has received the acknowledgement

Transmission of Designated Distress Alert in Inmarsat C


 Go to 'Distress' in the menu bar by using the arrow keys and press enter
 Then click the “land station” then choose select then click “Arvi”
 Then choose your nature of distress for example your distress is Man Overboard
use the down arrow key and select Collision and press space bar to select.
 Move to “OK” using the arrow keys then press enter.
 Lift the cover to reach the distress button.
 Send a Distress Alert by pressing the botton on the transceiver for a period of

 During the five seconds the distress button is pressed down the alarm indication
light on the transceiver starts blinking and the terminal built- in buzzer starts to
beep.
 After this period of five seconds the indication light will steadily go on and the
buzzer will be silent.
 When the distress alert has been confirmed this will be shown by the alarm
indication light going off for a short period every 15 seconds.
 If the alert is not confirmed the light will turn itself off.
 The Distress Alert will be directly routed to the with the LES associated MRCC.
 This MRCC will acknowledge the distress alert.
Link Test or PVT (Performance Verification Test) to aCES - Inmarsat C
Today we will discuss how to do the link test on Inmarsat C
 First, open the equipment to know if the equipment is open or not is basically
look at the top of the screen and see if there is five green lights, if there is a
five green lights, it means that the equipment is open
 Second, go to options then click scan then choose whether its West Atlantic,
East Atlantic, Pacific or Indian.
 After that there will be a notification that will pop up and say log in successful
 Then go to options again and click link test
 Then choose activate and below that there is a message “automatic test
mode” after a few seconds or minutes the link test result will show.

Cancellation of a false distress alert - Inmarsat C

 Select 'File' in the Menubar on the top of the screen by using the arrow keys
followed by 'Enter'.
 Select 'New Telex' by using the arrow keys followed by 'Enter'.
 Now the cursor is blinking on the top of the Text field and the text can be added
by typing in on the keyboard.
 Type in the editor screen the message to cancel the Alert containing information
about the false alert and apologies for the mistake. E.g.: From: Master of M/V
Octans, To: MRCC Den Helder Rescue, SU: cancel Distress Alert, Please cancel
the Distress Alert sent by this station at 10:25 UTC, apologies for any
inconvenience.
 When the text has been entered you can transmit it immediately (Alt,T
combination to enter the transmit menu) or save it (Alt,F,S combination to enter
the file save menu).
 Go to the Land Station using the arrow buttons and touch the 'Space Bar' and
then select the Land Earth Station which has been used for the transmission of
the Distress Alert using the arrow keys and confirm your choice by pressing
'Enter.'
 Go to '[X] Text in 'editor' using the arrow keys (by-pass this item when you wish
to send your text message from the screen). By touching the 'space bar' in this
position it will remove the mark showing '[ ] Text in 'editor' and 'File’ to select
cancel then save and below this field this option can be used to transmit a saved
file.
 And last the info will pop up saying that the acknowledgement received from 001
via USCG.
Transmission of an edited distress alert- Inmarsat C

 Select 'File' in the Menubar on the top of the screen by using the arrow keys
followed by 'Enter'.
 Select 'New Telex' by using the arrow keys followed by 'Enter'.
 Now the cursor is blinking on the top of the Text field and the text can be added
by typing in on the keyboard.
 Type in the editor screen the message; provide ship name, call sign or
registration number, position, person onboard and etc.
 When the text has been entered you can transmit it or save it to DISTRESS.
 Go to transmit and in the message select search and rescue, land station: Arvi
306 Indian
 Go to '[X] Text in 'editor' using the arrow. By touching the 'space bar' in this
position it will remove the mark showing '[ ] Text in 'editor' and 'File’ then Distress
and after that send it
 And last the info will pop up saying that the acknowledgement received from 001
via USCG.
