Consider the circuit below. It provides a digital output (H: 3.3 V, L: 0V) depending on the input
value VG1.

The window range for triggering the digital output is approximately [1.25—2.25] V.
Note R1=1k, R2=4.02k, R3=4.99k, R4=10k & R5=10k.

1) Why are U1 and U2 asymmetric?

2) What’s the influence of the value of R5?

3) Define analytically a set of possible values of R1, R2, and R3 to set the window detector
between +2.5 V and +2.0 V. No change of voltage references is allowed.

4) If only two resistors can be modified out of R1, R2 & R3, and only the values 0 Ω, 1 𝑘𝑘Ω,
4.02 𝑘𝑘Ω, 4.99 𝑘𝑘Ω, and 10 𝑘𝑘Ω are available, which resistors would you modify, and which
values would you choose?

5) Consider the scenario where the analytical solution is not possible, and only a solution by
simulation is possible. The future of the humanity depends on you providing a good
enough solution in less than 5 minutes. What would you do to suggest a solution?
