Revision 1 24/04/2023
ENGINEERING SERVICE
TECHNICAL S/DIRECTION

1. Introduction

A request for study was issued by HSE in order to increase and maintain the pressure in the
SWI firefighting networks at 4 bars
The justification requested study be:

1. Deficit of the UDE network pressure water supply

2. Frequent interruption of the UDE network

3. New consumption by the installation fire protection system of the electrical transformer
and its connection to the existing fire protection network.

2. Methodology

This case study begins by

a. Define the problem

b. Identify the causes
c. Find a solution
d. Launch actions
e. Monitor the effectiveness of the solution and its implementation

3. Discussion

To define the problem and take charge of this concern a site visit at the SWI unit was
performed in presence of utility supervisors and it’s appears the following:

1. PCV inlet pressure of the UDE network is 10 bars

(Valve chamber next to the GP2/Z complex).

2. PVC output pressure is 4.5 bar (see attached photos). The representative of the Utilities
Department can adjust the pressure regulator (PCV) as per needed.

4.5 bars Adjusted as per needed 6.5 bars

3. The new transformer protection system is out of

service.

Revision 1 24/04/2023

TECHNICAL S/DIRECTION

We noticed a significant leak in the BL 097 UDE battery

limit, this leak is the main cause of the pressure drop.

The problem is clear and the solution is clear. For this it is necessary to repair
immediately this leak in order to keep the system under pressure.

4. Recommendations

- install a periodic program monitoring each 03 months of the firefighting network

(documented) from the beginning.

- Lock of the all valve chamber’s (in paticulary PCV near GP2/Z).

- Perform periodic inspection of the all valve chambers.
