Descendants of the Sun is a Korean drama

television series centering a surgeon and a

special forces officer that shows the
development of their love story amidst the
many challenges they face; saving people’s
lives, killing bad people to protect lives, and
doing their jobs as a surgeon and a soldier. The
audience gets to watch the two fall in love
while providing aid in a country dealing with a
natural disaster and civil strife.

The male lead is Yoo Shi-Jin, the special

forces captain. The female lead is Kang Mo-
Yeon, a cardiothoracic surgeon. Seo Dae-
Young, a master sergeant and Shi-Jin’s best
friend, and Yoon Myeong-Joo, a first
lieutenant and an army surgeon, are two of
the other main characters. The setting is
Seoul, South Korea, in Haesung Hospital,
where Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon works. The
location where most events happen in the
series is in the fictional war-torn island of
Uruk.

The most challenging part of the series is

obviously one of the themes, doing your best to save and protect the lives of others. You must commit
yourself in doing this job, you have to sacrifice
your time, your health, your relationships with
people, and even your risk your own life.
However, despite all these factors, I still want to
pursue this course. Because behind all these, I
desire to also do my best, to give what I can, and
to do what I can to care for another person’s
health and life. This series further influenced my
decision and inspired me to pursue and study this
course. It shows many scenes where it relates to
my field of study and despite the hard work and
difficulty that obviously comes with it, it
motivates and drives me to also exert that effort into caring for other people’s health and lives.

I have realized once again how important it is to give your best and really focus on your job and your
patient, commit to your profession, and be willing to pursue your course. Of course, putting effort and
having the qualifications and skills are equally important to being committed and dedicated to your work.
So, with all these assets combined, one will progress and have a successful career. The characters in the
series never thought twice to risk their lives and did everything to help others. So, I also want to do my
part in this world full of crisis and dilemma, and willingly devote myself to my profession for the good
and betterment of humanity and give my care, love, compassion, and sacrifice as well.
