.Baby Theresa and the Definition of Death

(Reaction Paper)

One word that describes my reaction to the situation was “injustice”. I was sad to
the last paragraph of the case which I put in this paper. “It is tragic that one cannot use
the organs of a hopelessly doomed anencephalic to save the lives of other infants. But
to kill one innocent for the sake of another is simple barbarism. Even just shortening a
doomed life in order to lengthen another in a fateful start on that road”. For me it is truly
tragic especially to baby Theresa is still a human with the same specs of a normal infant
but treated as sacrifice for other infants who need organs. Killing her for the sake of
other will not guaranteed the recoveries of those who need her organs. For such it is
basically barbarism. If I were her parents, I would simply talked to Experts/Doctors
whom are expert of this disease before I come up for a decision. Although she had a
very short life in this world, she has a right to live because she is still a human aside
from her defects. To relate it to the lesson moral courage and moral imagination, the
parents of Baby Theresa has the moral courage to let them kill the baby for the sake of
the organs to be donated to those who in need because they think it is a rightful thing to
do which is the definition of moral courage. And to relate it with moral imagination it
says that envisioning the full possibilities of how to solve the ethical challenge, which I
think the parents of Baby Theresa with the help of the doctors, envisioned that if the
baby died naturally, the organs will also die and to avoid that they create another option
by killing the baby to preserved the organs but then as to what they have feared the
organs have died too. To wrapped up my reaction, it was truly injustice, inhuman, and a
truly sin to God.

.Pandi Housing Project

(Reaction Paper)

For a little background of the case, it says that Kalipunan ng Damayang

Mahihirap or simply known as the KADAMAY is a group of informal settlers to have a
house inclined with the promised of President Rodrigo Duterte. The said housing project
in Pandi, Bulacan is supposedly for the policemen and for the soldier was also a
promise for them but he gave it to the Kadamay members. And to connect it to the
lesson is it Kadamay members deserve to have this housing project? Or is this their
right as a Filipino Citizen? For me they deserve to have a house because first of all they
kept a promise from the higher authority which is the President to give all informal
settlers a home for shelter. But I think they abused the government like even they
demand the livelihood to fully paid the houses in Pandi which is if you are matured
person, you can’t be dependent on government forever. Working hard to earn a house
is possible without the help of government. This too much dependency to government
makes every poor family being demanding and complaining for what have they’ve done
to them. Yes there is fact that as an authority of a nation they are responsible for the
rights of every individual such as a house for example but the money for payment of the
house is the responsibility of the poor people which is the Kadamay members. And I
came to the fact of believing that this Kadamay group is mandated by NPA which is an
enemy of government because according to the former members of Kadamay they are
paying 300 pesos for every rally and if they don’t they will threat to kill them. To wrap my
reaction, I do not favor of having these housing grants to Kadamay members but
instead let them be independent and make their own ways on how they will have a
house of its own because of too much dependency, our poor people remains poor
because of complaining and depending to the authority which is the government.

Case Analysis No. 3

Dilemma

As seen in the problem, If I were the one who will decide the share, I would
probably gave him a 50/50 share because aside to being fair to my partner we are also
tired of making this experiment. If he/she refuses to my offer then I will explain to
him/her that you’re being greed in taking almost whole part of the money, we are
partner here, we make progress in experiment, we are tired and to be honest I am the
one to decide for the share of the money if you refuse to my offer then I have no choice
to take it all. But as for fair treatment, whether you like it or not, that is my offer, a fair
offer as replacement for our work in the experiment. As of this lesson, I realized that
even we are poor or not, we must practice justice and fairness all of the time, greed and
selfishness will not guarantee your happiness forever. For me, seeing people around
me working hard for their dreams is making me happy also especially to my fellow
classmates who are striving hard to learn more and make progress and I myself will
help with my best that I can to make them true. That is what fairness and justice means
to me.

.INSIGHTS FOR THE REMAINING LESSON

Virtue Ethics
For this lesson I’ve realized that virtue ethics is more important than anything in
this world, by enumerating the key concepts of Aristotle such as Ergon, Eudaimonia,
Arête, and Phronesis. These key concepts makes me realized the role of human in
fulfilling happiness and a have a better life. Also this lesson categorizes in to two
precepts namely Primary and Secondary Precepts which primary explains the broader
part such as love and worship God and the Secondary tell the specific part such as
having an husband and wife.

Utilitarianism
As for this lesson, I have learned that not all we do results to happiness, not all
we want is everybody wants. This lesson makes me realized that happiness is by
creating something that do not violate or harm other people, such as helping classmates
in studying, provides a very understandable thought as they can understand. But
sometimes I do harm others for some reason of making me hurt but making revenge for
it didn’t make me happy neither. And as I’ve reading this, it makes me think how I am as
a person, a classmate, a son, and a public servant. It makes me think that I have to
make a progress and change the way it is changeable.

Moral Dilemmas of Baby Boomers and Millennial

This lesson emphasizes the similarities and differences of Baby Boomers and
Millennials as to their moral dilemmas they’ve been encountering. I’ve quoted some
similarity and differences of these two generation such as Baby Boomers tend to be like
group works associated with members to be able to create and finished their
assignments and Millennials tend to be Individualistic to the extent of working the
assignment alone and don’t need anyone to help him/her. To wrapped up, as for this
current generation I prefer to be both baby boomer and a millennial in terms of work, I
emphasize group work because it is needed to be able to learn more but I also
emphasize individuality which for some instances of I can only solved or work this
alone, without the help of others.
