TEACHERS ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY
Motivation ANGLE EXERCISE
(5 minutes)
The teacher tells different angle measurement and type
of angle and it will act by the students.

The students use their arms and legs to make angles by

bending and moving.

How is this related to our topic for today? Do you have

any idea?
It is all about angles, Ma'am
B. ACTIVITY
(5 minutes) Our topic for this morning is about illustrating the
ASA Congruence Postulate.

But before anything else did you bring your materials?

Yes, Ma’am
Okay, here is the procedure in our activity.
First , prepare your materials such as glue, scissors,
protractor, ruler, colored paper, and bond paper.
Next, cut sticks into following lengths:
 2 red paper 3cm long
 2 green paper 4cm long
 2 blue paper 5cm long
And, measure 2 angles of 90°, 2 angles of 60°, 2
angles of 30° on the corner of three colored pieces of
colored papers, cut them out and label them.

Did you following?

Yes, Ma'am
If clear, then let’s proceed.
Follow the following steps.
1. On the piece of bond-paper, take one 5 cm stick and
place two of the cut-out triangles on each end. Repeat
the process for the second triangle.

2. Using a ruler, draw a segment along each of the

angle. Two segments should intersect forming the last
angle. Repeat the process for the second triangle.

3. Measure the third angle and the lengths of the two

sides in each triangle.

C. ANALYSIS Did you able to accomplish the activity?

(5 minutes) Yes, Ma’am
Did you get the same result?
Yes, Ma’am
What measurement did you get in the third angle of
two triangle? Are they the same?
The third angle of both triangle
measures 90°, and yes, they are
the same.
D. ABSTRACTION What did you notice in our activity?
(20 minutes) We noticed that the two angles are
congruent.
Why? Justify your answer
At the beginning of the activity we
make this triangles with the same
sides and angles.
That’s right!

What if we don’t know the measurements of the sides

and the angles of the triangles , what’s other way we’ll
be use to identify whether the triangles are congruent?
By identifying their corresponding
parts ma’am.

ASA (Angle-Side-Angle) Congruence Postulate

If two angles and the included side of one triangle are
congruent to the corresponding two angles and an
included side of another triangle, then the triangles
are congruent.

Illustrative Example #1

In the activity above let’s name the two triangle for us

to understand it better.

▲ABC and ▲XYZ

In ▲ABC
Since I already discussed the included angle and Include Between…
included sides. Identify the included angle and
d
included sides of ▲ABC and ▲XYZ.
angle
∠A AB∧ AC
∠B AB∧BC
∠C AB∧ AC

Included Common
sides to…
AB ∠A and ∠B

BC ∠B and ∠C

AC ∠A and ∠C

In ▲XYZ the included angles are:

Include Between…
d
angle
∠X XY ∧XZ
∠Y XY ∧YZ
∠Z XZ ∧YZ

Included Common
sides to…
XY ∠X and ∠Y

XZ ∠X and ∠Z

YZ ∠Y and ∠Z

That’s right
Corresponding Corresponding
How about their correspondence in terms of angles sides angle
and sides? AB ↔ XY ∠ A ↔∠ X
BC ↔YZ ∠ B↔ ∠Y
AC ↔ XZ ∠C ↔ ∠Z

Then what did you say about triangle? Given only two angles with
included side in ▲ABC (
AB , BC , AC ) with the same
measure to the two angles and
included side of ▲XYZ, I noticed
that the measures of the third
angles of the triangles are equal
and the lengths of the two
remaining corresponding sides are
also equal. With this, all the six
corresponding parts are congruent.
Thus, it can be concluded that two
triangles are congruent although
there are only three corresponding
congruent parts (two angles-
∠ A ↔∠ X∧∠ B↔ ∠ Y , and
their included side- AB↔ XY ).

That’s correct
Thank you!
Do you think the given triangles satisfies the ASA
Congruent Postulate? Yes, Ma’am

Why? Based on the definition ASA

Congruent Postulate, triangle must
have a two angles and an included
side are congruent to the
corresponding two angles and
included side to the other triangle.
Magnificient!

Illustrative Example #2

Let’s prove if two triangles are are congruent using

ASA Congruent Postulate.

Given:
OW = AT
∠O = ∠A
∠W = ∠T

What can you say about the given?

Two angles ∠O and ∠W and
included side OW are congruent
to the corresponding two angles
∠A and ∠T and included side AT
to the another triangle.

We can say that by ASA criterion that…

We can say that by ASA criterion
that Δ COW ≅Δ BAT
E. APPLICATION 1. Parallelogram ABCD is made up of two triangles
(10 minutes) ΔABC and ΔACD. It is given that ∠ABC is 70° and
∠BCA is 30°, which are equal to ∠CDA and ∠DAC
respectively. Side BC is equal to side AD. Can you tell
which property is used to tell whether ΔABC and
ΔACD are congruent?

Solution:
Given,
∠ABC = ∠CDA = 70°
∠BCA = ∠DAC = 30°
Side BC = Side AD.
Therefore, by ASA criterion, ΔABC
≅ ΔACD.
2. The trusses located in Naga College Foundation Inc.
is seen. Name the one triangle as ▲NCF and the other
is ▲CAN. It is given that ∠NCF is 90° and ∠NFC is
30°, which are equal to ∠CNA and ∠CAN
respectively. Side CF is equal to side AN. Can you tell
which property is used to tell whether ΔABC and
ΔACD are congruent?

Solution:
Given:
∠NCF = ∠CAN = 90°

∠NFC=∠CAN=30°

Side CF = Side AN

∴ ▲ NCF ≅ ▲CAN
ASA stands for?
GENERALIZATION
(5 minutes)
What are the criteria to tell whether the triangles are in Angle-Side-Angle Congruent
ASA? Postulate

Two angles and the included side

in one triangle are congruent to
Given the figure tell which property is used to tell two angles and the included side in
whether ΔRST and ΔUVW are congruent? another triangle.

Solution:
Given
ln =PN
∠L= ∠P
∠ N = ∠N
Therefore we can say by ASA
criterion ΔLNM ≅ ΔPNO

EVALUATION In the one 1/2 sheet of paper.

(7 minutes)
For each pair of triangles, write the marked
corresponding parts then identify the three pair that
needs to be congruent to apply the ASA congruence
postulate.

________;_________;______

∴ ∆¿ ∆ ¿
Pass your papers in front of yours.
ASSIGNMENT In your notebook.
(3 minutes) 1. Define and Illustrate the SAS, and SSS Congruent
Postulate.

Is there any questions? Clarification?

If none, then class dismiss. None,Ma’am
