Major 14: Teaching of Speaking
Second Semester 2017 – 2018

I. UNIVERSITY VISION
The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University shall be a progressive learner-centered
research university recognized in the ASEAN region in 2020.

II. UNIVERSITY MISSION


The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU) shall primarily provide
instruction, undertake research and extension, and provide advanced studies and progressive
leadership in agriculture, forestry, engineering, education, arts and sciences, humanities, and
other fields as may be relevant to the development of the province.

III. COLLEGE GOALS


At the end of the four-year program the graduates should be able to (1) demonstrate
professional competencies, specialized skills and desirable personal and social traits for
effective instruction; (2) contribute to the development in the teacher education through
research; and (3) strengthen external linkages for effective resource-sharing in response to the
changing needs of the people and the institutions in the service area.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:


At the end of the course, the student will have:
1. Demonstrated high level of confidence in oral communication.
2. Attained at least 80% accuracy in the pronunciation and enunciation of commonly used
English words.
3. Introduced strategies and techniques in developing oral communicative efficiency
among students.
4. Increased interest in continuously improving his/her speech habits by participating in
various activities that involve communication like debate, poetry reading, oratorical and
the like.

VII. COURSE DESCRIPTION:


Focuses on the nature of speaking, its theoretical underpinnings, speech mechanisms and
competencies as well as productive teaching-learning strategies in the teaching of speaking.

XV. CLASSROOM POLICIES:


1. A student who misses any of the major tests must present a valid reason why he/she
was absent before he/she can take the special examination
2. Allowance of 15 minutes is considered before one will be marked absent
3. All other policies stipulate in the Student’s Handbook related to academics and proper
decorum are also included (haircut, uniform, no. of allowable absences, etc.)
4. Usage of cellular phones and other communication/entertainment gadgets are not
allowed inside the classroom during the class hours
5. Any form of cheating are strongly prohibited.
6. Students are not allowed to have more than 11 hours absences semester (20% of
allocated hours), she/he may be automatically be dropped in the subject.
