Music Magazine
Project Title
Section 1: Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I’m choosing to do this project because I love music, I love magazines, and I love
photography, so it’s perfect to combine all three ideas into one and create a music
magazine. I definitely prefer the print industry of media and I also feel like that is my
biggest strength so I knew I had to complete something that involved that. Music
magazine photography is actually one of my main inspirations when it comes to
photoshoots because the set, props, and outfits always describe who the artist is as a
person, this is what I aim to do in my project.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)

In this project I would like to create a music magazine cover, contents page, and a
double page spread, I plan on completing in depth research such as research into
statistics and the history of music magazines, the codes and conventions of the
magazines by completing analysis on existing music magazines and the pages that I will
create, that will help me with organising a successful photoshoot for the magazine,
within this photoshoot I will take the actual magazine cover itself, photos for the contents
page, and photos that can be used on the double page spread. I will also create
templates during the editing phase which will be experimentation for what the layouts of
each page will look like. My aim is to create a magazine that centres around the genre
of rock, the double page spread however will be about one independent rock band that I
will interview and photograph. The magazine will feature my own primary imagery from
rock concerts I have been to as well as cover lines from popular rock bands and artists.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 150 words)
Throughout this project I will be receiving feedback from my mentor and from the band
that I interview for the double page spread to make sure those particular pages are
suited well to them and that they like the imagery used. I will also be reflecting on what I
do each day to keep myself on track to finish for the deadline but also as an evaluation
of each individual thing I do. I will evaluate my questionnaire and focus group once
they’re complete to show what I have learnt from conducting them. At the very end of
my project I will also create an in-depth final evaluation that will cover every area of my
project from the initial ideas to my final pieces and I will discuss whether I feel like I was
successful in what I was trying to do or not and why.
