Q4 WEEK 6-7-8 MATH 5

DESCRIBING, PERFORMING AND RECORDING RESULT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL

PROBABILITY

Probability is the mathematics of chance. It is the field in mathematics that deals with chances. An experiment is
an activity when something is done and results are expected by chance. The uncertain result is an outcome and the
expected result is the favorable outcome.

Experimental probability is the ratio of the number of times an event occurs to the number of trials. It is done by
doing an experiment

EXAMPLE 1: A coin is tossed 60 times. A head appeared twenty-seven times. Find the experimental probability
of getting heads
Solution:

Answer: the experimental probability of getting a head is 9/ 20 .

Example 2: A bag contains 10 red marbles, 8 yellow marbles and 2 black marbles. Roma took a marble and returned
it. After 10 trials, a red marble was picked 6 times. Find the experimental probability of getting a red
marble.

Solution:

Answer: Therefore, the experimental probability of getting a red marble is 3 /5 .

Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. A bag contains 1 yellow, 3 green, 4 blue and 2 red crayons. What is the probability of pulling a green crayon from
the bag?

2. What is the probability of drawing a seven of hearts from a pack of 52 cards?

3. A bag has 1 blue, 4 green, 2 red and 5 yellow marbles. What is the probability that you get a green marble?

4. In a box containing 4 red balls, 6 yellow balls, 5 green balls, and 10 white balls, what are the chances of picking a
white ball?
