Executes the Different Skills Involved in the Game.

I. Background Information:
Filipinos have many traditional games. Part of a Filipino
culture is to search entertainment and enjoyment.
Playing games is one of the sources.
We can trace the different games of the Filipino ancestors
were played involved different skills and competition in playing
the game. There are different types of games. One of those are
the Target Games and Fielding Games.
Target Games are activities in which players send an object
toward a target while avoiding any obstacles. It can be played
either indoor or outdoor. In unopposed game, the contender only
aims to hit the target to score while in an opposed game, the
player uses offensive or defensive strategies.
By playing these games, participants will learn the key skills
and strategies for games such as Croquet, Golf, Archery, Boccia,
Curling and Bowling.
What are the examples of Target Games?
Individual Target Game:
Palo sebo, luksong-baka,sipa,bowling,billiards shooting range and
golf.

Team Target Games:
Bati-cobra, hole-in, tumbang-preso, luksong –tinik, ubusan ng lahi,
siyato, football and baseball.
Skills Developed in Target Games:
1.Coordination. You hit a moving target from a distance.
2.Agility. Being in game makes you moves swiftly.
3.Endurance. When you are into the games, you can resist fatigue
and can tolerate exhaustion.
4.Reaction Time. In moment that you need to block and defend
your object, your response to opponent’s blow or hit is quicker
leading to winning.
5.Flexibility. You are able to move parts of your body in any
direction smoothly and with effort.
Striking/Fielding Games are activities in which players score points
by striking an object and running to designated playing areas or
prevent opponents from scoring by retrieving the object and
returning it to stop the play.
What are the examples of Fielding Games?
Examples of striking and fielding games include baseball, cricket,
softball and kickball.

Ribby and basketball.
• There are three types of skills involved in striking/fielding
games: Locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills
(Guest Editorial, no date).
• Locomotor skills involve players being able to run, slide, jump,
and leap.
• Non-locomotor skills involve stretching, bending, and
reaching for an object.

• Manipulative Skills involve players being able to send an
object (both by throwing and by striking it), receive (catch)
an object, and retain (and run with) an object.
• These skills can also transfer over to invasion games such as
basketball, where athletes must be able to pass the ball to
their teammates who must catch it.
What is the difference between Target Games and Fielding
Games?
Fielding team players need to be able to throw, catch, and
collect. The space is shared with the batting team traveling on a
track (e.g., basepath). Target games such as golf, archery and
bocce involve sending objects toward a target. Sending
objects is the major movement skill used here (e.g., striking and
throwing).
What are the importance of playing games which involves
different skills?
