Authentication/Access in Online Shopping

A. Individual Activity
B. Using your laptop or a desktop connected to the internet, create an account in Shoppe (if
no account created yet), on this document, write or sketch the steps involved and
mark/highlight the parts where identity and authentication matter.

a. NOTE: you may use the last page to write/sketch the steps.
b. You’re going to go about the process of buying a Bluetooth earphone in Shopee. You will go
on your computers to remind you how the site works, but focus on thinking about details
that are important for authentication.

C. Explore the following questions

a. What happens when you visit Shopee?
It appear the form where in you can enter your previous account or create an
account.
b. What steps might you take to choose a Bluetooth earphone, and to decide whether to buy
it from Shopee itself or from another company that sells products on the Shopee site?
When you press the product and click it into add to cart you can check out your
order to buy it.
c. How and when do questions about authentication or identity come up?
When you log in and buying the product to make sure the personal information and
to avoid bogus buying.
D. Using the sketch or steps you created, answer the following questions.
a. How do you know you’ve connected to the right Shopee website?
When you see at the URL that connection is secure or the lock logo.
b. How does Shopee know the username or email you enter belongs to you? It’s because the
activity that you will do once you enter the shopee site using your personal
account.
i. Why do you have to have a username? To know the person who log in shopee
site.
ii. What’s the point of creating a password? To make sure the security of
account in shopee.
b. What did you do when you have found the item that you are looking for? Click and add to
cart.
c. What about if you will be buying it from a different seller, how do you know they’re a real
seller that won’t cheat you? You can look the star review and read the comments
about the product.

d. How do you know that the customer reviews are authentic? If the
grammar is properly some comments can easily identify if it is fake or not. You can
also watch the sample video that send of other buyers.
e. How does Shopee know you have permission to use the payment method you entered?
(NOTE: You don’t need to checkout or buy anything) Shopee asking if you are pay thru
bank account/online bank or you can choose the cash on delivery.
f. How does Shopee know you have permission to receive packages at the address you
entered? When you indicate it to the shopee where to send the product you bought.
g. How do you know the package you are about to open is from Shopee? The shopee app
will show that if the purchased product has been delivered and a rider has texted or
called that he has already brought the package purchased by the buyer.
h. How does Shopee know they’re shipping to a valid address? Shopee may use an address
validation service that checks the address information entered by the customer
against a database of valid addresses maintained by a third-party provider. If the
address is found to be invalid or incomplete, Shopee may prompt the customer to
correct it.

a. Who are the people and organizations/businesses involved in your recent transaction? So
far nothing because I can’t use shopee app.
b. Which parties (people, organizations, businesses) communicate information to each other.

c. When do one party needs to verify the identity of another. When they need personal
information and very sensitive information.
d. Overall, how do you explain the access control of Shopee.com? Maybe they can improve it
because its simple and easy to access especially bots.
