One dimension motion- simplest form of motion, motion in one direction Frame of reference- system used for specifying the exact position of an object Displacement- the straight line from initial position to final position, vector quantity. Velocity- distance travelled in unit time in a stated direction, both magnitude and direction, vector quantity Speed- distance travelled in unit time, scalar quantity Acceleration- increase in speed, found by : final pos. - initial pos time taken Vector quantity Force- a push or a pull that causes changes to an object, shape, movement etc. vector quantity Balanced and unbalanced forces- balanced, both forces acting on an object are equal, unbalanced, the forces acting on an object arent equal. Newton's first law- every object will remain at rest or at constant movement unless an unbalanced force acts upon it to change its state. Law of inertia- there is a natural tendency on objects. The motion of an object even if it is at rest will remain constant and unchanged unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. (resistance to change of state of motion) Sound Sound is produced by vibrations. Vibrations are back and forth movements. Sound has 2 characteristics: Loudness- the louder or softer the sound is. To change the loudness you need to hit something harder or softer. Pitch- the louder or softer the note is. To change the pitch you need to hit something faster or slower.
