This reaction paper summarizes key takeaways from videos about psychotherapy techniques that can be applied to help students in special education. The videos discussed looking at a client's problems from a broader perspective, identifying missing factors in a client's life, and addressing root causes of issues. The second video focused on making clients more receptive to therapy through proper conditioning and listening. The third video suggested asking simple questions to uncover root problems rather than being too analytical. The writer intends to apply these counseling strategies and guidelines when teaching special education students.

Reaction Paper: Takeaways in improving your
competency in assisting learners through counseling. On the first video, the speaker discussed the 3 Psychotherapy techniques that we can apply for our students to understand them better. The speaker compared the problem of a person into glass windows in a Coptic Church. It is easy to get distracted by the overwhelming problems of the client, but we need to understand and always look at the bigger picture. Like windows in a Coptic Church, lights can be interpreted with different colors but there is only one light source.
The speaker said that we always need to consider the
things that is missing on why our client/student is not enjoying life. And with those things we can identify or suggest the things we should improve and advise to our client. We must also look at the faulty patterns that our client keeps on doing to understand the root cause of the problem.
In the second video the speaker gave a lesson on how to
make our client more receptive. Sometimes a client can be secretive and in denial in the therapy process. It is important to follow several procedures to improve the communication between the therapist and the client. We must always put people in a right frame of mind before persuading them to do something. It always important to condition the client before giving advice. Sometimes we must listen to them first to let them feel comfortable and ready with the therapy session. In the third video, the speaker discusses some of the therapy questions we can ask our clients to get the root problem. The speaker said that we must not overlook the obvious and avoid being too deep and perceptive. Sometimes common sense can do a lot for a client. Also consider the primal human needs and ask the client if he got these things in his arsenal. It is also important to ask the client if he/she is meeting the circle of friends.
All these discussions can be very helpful especially
when we are dealing with problem students and unstable behavior of our learners. It is always important to have guide questions and alternative to make the therapy successful. I made a lot of takeaways in these discussions and I will make sure to apply these in my teaching in special education
