Importance of Communication in Business

Figure 1. Project Management Tree Swing

This common example of a tree swing shows just how things can go wrong as you create a new
product or service.

1. What can you say about the scenario (Figure 1) presented?

The figure shows the process of creating or innovating a new product. As I observe, communication is
basic yet important part of our daily life. Let us focus on the first and last illustration. The customer
explained that he likes a swing like that, but in the end, he needs a swing made of a tire. The project
manager is more knowledgeable about how this work, so he must clarify things before starting to do
it. In every illustration, there are always changes in the information about what product they need to
make. Lack of communication is very obvious in this situation. It does not matter if the customer does
a poor job communicating or doesn’t fully understand the needs they have. They didn't stick to the
plan and idea of a customer.

2. If you were the in charge in this project, how could you have improved that result with better
communication?

There are many ways to have better communication in the workplace. It is always about
being understood and to understand. As a project leader, I need to create a plan on how to distribute
the task to my team. What is the strategy we will make to give our clients the best product and satisfy
their needs and wants? Whenever someone talks about the instructions and task your attention
should be present. And if there is something that you need to clarify, ask as soon as possible. As a
project manager, it is also important that you will provide all the details regarding the project. It is not
enough to distribute all the tasks, it also requires the exact details and explanation of the project.
Everyone that is involved in the project must listen carefully and understand what the
client wants accurately. Bad communication may lead to bad results. And also, as a part of the team
whatever your position you need to follow all the instructions that are given to you. You all need to
work as a team, stick to the plan and focus on the goals. By that like in the figure, we can avoid
mistakes and misunderstandings upon making the product.
