Teacher

Section & Date

Time
Learning relate impulse and momentum to collision of objects (e.g., vehicular collision); (S9FE- Level 9
Competency IVb36)
infer that the total momentum before and after collision is equal; (S9FE-IVb37) Quarter 4

Learning Knowledge: Explain the Law of Conservation of Momentum Week 3

Objectives Skills :Demonstrate activity that shows conservation of momentum No.
Attitudes: Show camaraderie in performing the activity
Day 3
Resources Needed Grade 9 Learners Materials

PROCEDURE:

Suggested Activities
the Plan
Awareness
POE: Let the students Predict, Observe and Explain the given situation

Hit a stone with another stone

In this short demonstration, the momentum of the stone A is transferred to stone B. When the
word “ transfer” is heard you may ask the students, “ How is momentum transferred”
Activity Activity 8 Ballon Rocket pages 265-266
 The teacher will explain the procedure of the activity
 The students will perform the activity and describe how a balloon rocket works and how
momentum is conserved

Analysis Guide Questions:

1.What can you say about the initial momentum of the system before releasing the air from
the balloon?

2. How do their momenta compare after releasing the air?

Abstraction What is conservation of momentum
Conservation of momentum is a fundamental law of physics which states that the
momentum of a system is constant if there are no external forces acting on the system. It is
embodied in Newton's first law (the law of inertia).
The total momentum of any set of objects remains the same unless outside forces act on
the objects. Therefore, while the momentum of each object involved in the collision changes,
the total momentum of the system remains constant. This is represented as
P before =P after
Application
Cite some applications of conservation of momentum in our daily undertakings.

Assessment
Each group of students will demonstrate activities that show conservation of momentum.
Let the students explain how is momentum conserved in their chosen activity

Assignment
Read in advance about the different types of collisions
Differentiate the different types of collision
