Thinking about the reason an author produced a source can be helpful to you because that reason
was what dictated the kind of information he or she chose to include.
Dictionary definitions and other usage refer to facts from the Latin factum, meaning ‘something
done’, is a statement that can be proven true or accurate. It is an event or thing known to have
happened or existed, a truth that has been verified from experience or observation while an
opinion, from the Latin opinio, meaning to ‘believe’, is a judgment that varies from person to
person. It is a belief not founded on certainty or proof. It may be a prevailing or popular feeling or
public opinion. Opinions may vary from person to person.
