3. Explain ASK
1. What do you mean by population?
Population is the number of organisms live together in the same
place.

2. How can we determine the population growth?

Population growth is based on four fundamental factors: birth rate,
death rate, immigration, and emigration.

Using these factors, the formula in determining population growth

is as follows:
t
Popula ion growth= (births + r ts) -
immig an t
(dea hs + t
emigran s)

3. Why should we care if the number of organisms in an area is

increasing or decreasing?
Because populations that are growing or diminishing can be
indicators of potential problems in the organisms’ environment

4. What are the factors that can stop a population from growing?
Natural disasters, temperature, sunlight, and
the activities of humans in the environment.

4. Elaborate 1. What is carrying capacity?

The carrying capacity of an environment is the maximum population
size of a biological species that can be sustained by that specific
environment, given the food, habitat, water, and other resources
available.

2. What do you mean if a population’s density is very high?

That means there are a lot of organisms crowded into a certain area.

3. What do you mean if a population’s density is low?

That means there are very few organisms in an area.

4. What is the difference between Density-independent limiting

factors and Density-dependent limiting factors?
Density-independent limiting factors that can stop a population from
growing can be such things as natural disasters, temperature,
sunlight, and the activities of humans in the environment.
Density-dependent limiting factors come into play when a population
reaches a certain number of organisms.
5. Evaluate 1.
What have you noticed with the
population of goat between mid-May
and mid-June?

2. The human population is growing at an exponential rate. Since you

have learned that population cannot grow infinitely, what do you
think will happen if the human population reaches its carrying
capacity?
VII. LEARNING ENABLEMENT
Reflection
A. No. Of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation
B. No. Of learners who require additional activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lesson work?
D. No. Of learners who have caught up with the lesson
E. No. Of learners who continue to require remediation
F. Which of my learning strategies worked well? Why did this work?
G. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?

LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

OVERPOPULATION

Overpopulation can be defined as a situation where the total number of the existing
human population exceeds the actual carrying capacity. Of all the environmental
problems our planet is facing today, overpopulation is the one that sometimes slips from
the radar. Overpopulation places a great demand on resources and land, which may be
the reason for widespread environmental issues in addition to impacting global
economies and standards of living. Overpopulation is caused by many factors such as
the reduction in mortality, better medical facilities, scarcity of precious resources are
some of the reasons which result in overburdening. If it is not able to sustain life, it can
become a fairly densely populated area.

S10LTIIIi-42 Explain the relationship between population growth and carrying

capacity

1. How does overpopulation affect human life?

2. How does overpopulation affect a country’s economy like the Philippines?

3. Make a slogan of the effects of overpopulation in the Philippines?

ANSWER KEY

1. If we are consuming too much and there are too many people on our planet what will
eventually happen?

If we continue to ignore the problem then eventually nature will force it upon us. The
signs are all around us that the planet and nature are exhibiting immense stresses.
There will be ocean acidification, global warming and many others. Humans as well as
all earth’s creatures will greatly suffer.

2. How does overpopulation affect a country’s economy like the Philippines?

Overpopulation in the Philippines is believed to cause sustained poverty and poor

economic growth.

3. Make a slogan of the effects of overpopulation in the Philippines?
