1. Explain why Dr. Jose Rizal was chosen as the National Hero of the Filipinos.

A hero is a person who represents goodness. Rizal used goodness to give us freedom. Jose Rizal
became a national hero in the Philippines because he battled for freedom in a quiet but effective
manner. Rather than using force or aggression, he communicated his love for the Philippines
through his books, essays, and articles. At the time, he was a very remarkable individual. He was
modest, preferring to fight for change through his works rather than by revolution. Instead of
being confrontational, he used his brains, talents, and skills in a more peaceful manner. Rizal
became a National Hero because he passed the criteria by being a National Hero during the
American period. Heroes are people who define and contribute to a nation's system of freedom
and order. Anarchy will result if there is no order. As a result, heroes are those who write the
constitution and laws that govern the country. Constitutions are simply the beginning for the
latter, for it is the people who live under the constitution who genuinely make a nation.

1. Define nationalism in your own understanding

The concept of nationalism refers to a person's devotion to their homeland. Every citizen
must have a feeling of loyalty when it comes to nationalism. Above all, it is an idea that
brings a nation's people together. It is also marked by a strong sense of patriotism. These are
factors that all citizens of a country have in common. Language, history, culture, traditions,
attitude, and territory are all common factors.

 1. Create a comparative analysis between Bayani and Kabayanihan based on Surigaonon context in
relation to Jose Rizal and Philippine Nationalism: Bayani and Kabayanihan.

Being called a hero does not require sacrificing his/her life for the cause or for the country.
Simple acts of serving people are acts of “Kabayanihan” and that makes a person “Bayani” at
present. When the pandemic happened we have this front liners, whose willing to serve people
even it has a higher risk of affecting the virus. They are consider as a form of active heroism
(kabayanihan) of an individual or a group of people by helping others without expecting anything
in return. The bayani itself has something to do with the people that we set up as heroes are
people that generally go above and beyond in terms of the call of duty, they do things that are
extraordinary and I describe the people who are faithful with their duty the public servant, I
believe it’s enough just knowing they helped someone else, and that what makes them a true hero.

2. In what way you can apply the concept of Kabayanihan in your place. Cite at least 3 examples.

Well, here in our place I seldom go out but in my own observation the people here is helpful
and thoughtful. So, first I appreciate and I would call it as kabayanihan the “tanod” here they
have the eagerness to save the people, because even it rains cat and dog, they still do their job
to round the whole barangay and it was a heroism for me. Second, the Brgy. Captain here is
very active when it comes to water supply, he finally give the solution to the problem of our
barangay, and I called it kabayanihan, even it a small deed but he saves the struggles of the
people when comes to water supply. Lastly, I would give the last platform of kabayanihan to
my parents, they give me shelter, food, love and support in my studies, which they are not
expecting anything in return. The kabayanihan in my place is simple yet it secure the safety of
the people.
