Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Choosing a course for college is a difficult thing in an individual’s decision. there

are so many factors that affect their decision, these includes family, passion, salary, and
the school facilities and they greatly affect the respective course a student may choose.

Students from K-12 are seeking services from college counselling centers to
frequently express concerns to their counsellors about making decisions regarding their
academic degrees. Many students seek counselling because they do not know their
vocational interests. However, these students also often mention personal issues (such as
generalized lack of motivation) that interfere with their decision making for a
bacalaureatte degree. These issues are frequently associated with personal characteristics
(e.g., low self-esteem and confidence) or interpersonal relationships (e.g. conflicts with
parents), and the quality of education (e.g. Classrooms, Facilities and Schedule) from a
school or university.

When students are choosing a certain career, they may not have all the
information needed about the job they are pursuing. Which may involve more math or
science than students that are prepared and had studied. Students may like one aspect of a
certain job and do not understand what other aspects come with the profession. Example,
some students may want to be veterinarians because they enjoy being around animals, but
students may not realize how much school work is required to become a veterinarian.
Students may not be open to all jobs and may not be capable of carrying a lot of load
works.

The researchers' curiosity and advance thinking about what they would
encounter when they step on college gave them the idea to formulate and create a
preliminary research for them to furthermore understand the nature of grade 12 and for
them to prepare themselves on the events that would affect also their decision for their
respective courses for college.

Statement of the Problem

The researchers’ speculate that there are certain questions needed to be

evaluated, the following speculations are stated.

 What factors affect the students in choosing their course?

 What do students include in their decisions?
 What kind of facilities do the students prefer for their interests?
 Does the quality of the school affect the students interests?

Objectives

The researchers formulated certain objectives for the research process;

 To identify the possible factors that may affect a student’s decision for their
interests.

 To be able to identify the certain characteristics one must have to achieve his/her
preferred interest.
 To know if the information’s are enough for the grade 12 students to decide for
their preferred course.
 To be able to identify if the facilities affect the students decision making.
 To identify the quality of education is important for the students’ interests.

Theoretical Framework

The framework of the research are the researchers’ collected data and are based
on previous theories and studies that opened up their curiosity about the topic.

The researchers’ formulated a questionnaire which may help them identify and
analyze the possible outcomes of the research. The goal of the researchers’ is to obtain
the response of ABM students, for the researchers to look for possible methods to
analyze, separate, and evaluate the factors that affect their decision making. Students are
expected to answer the questionnaire based on their own knowledge.

Conceptual Framework

The researchers’ conceptual framework is derived from the available concepts

for the data gathering of the said research, the framework is expected to give an insight
about the research and the reason and targets of the researchers.

Hypothesis of the study

 The Researchers hypothesize that the students are struggling to decide for their
college courses and needed to express their insights about the factors affecting
their righteous decision.

Null Hypothesis

 Because of some factors, the researchers assume that the students need to seek a
suitable course based on their knowledge and experience.

Alternative Hypothesis

 The students tend to change their courses and the researcher’s speculates that the
research may help the Grade 12 students of ABM to decide for their college
course.

Scope and Limitations of the study

The research paper is only limited in grade 12 ABM students, parents, teachers
and to those who are going to pursue a collegiate degree.

The purpose of the research is for the readers to evaluate themselves; they
should search the courses and the college/universities. Identify the courses in which you
are most interested and some alternatives on which to fall back if you do not get the
points for your first choice of interest.

Significance of the Study

 This research is in significance of helping the grade 12 ABM students to choose

the right course for college:
 To help the grade 12 students realize, and in order for them to know what they
really want for college.
 Students should know what would be beneficial for them.
 It should be their right and own decision; they just need to follow what they really
want.
 They can base their preferences on their hobbies or in what they are good to and in
capable of.
