AND PRACTICES

WHY STEM
APPROACH?
• In real world, a subject or discipline
does not exist separately.
• Authentic learning occur perfectly
when involving the integration of
science subjects.
• The STEM approach provides room for
integration between subjects in STEM,
as well as other subjects to apply in
real life contexts.

Integrated STEM in the
Classroom
• The main factor that will encourage teachers to integrate
STEM is the interest in STEM itself.
• Teachers need to nurture their own interest in STEM through
engaging activities, exposure and understanding so that they
will blend together perfectly.
• This STEM integration research is guided by the theoretical
framework in figure below.
Integrated STEM in the Classroom
• This STEM integration in the classroom is guided by the theoretical
framework in figure below.
Eg: The following are STEM-related
classroom practices in biology via hands on
activities
• Field work to collect data
• Student-centred activity: build up model, games, presentation, group
discussions, storytelling,
• Experimenting: create hypothesis, find relationship, calculate data
• Use Technology: play online videos to explain certain topics that are too
abstract, find information and and idea from social media or internet
• Problem-based learning: students find an issue or problem and present
it to the class
Challenges & Strategies

1. Not many teaching models and general guidelines

for the teachers to implement STEM in their
classrooms.
2. Time constraint
3. Teachers must also struggle to complete the syllabus
4. Lack of teaching aids
Challenges & Strategies
5. Unstable Wi-Fi connection can affect the STEM
integration because teachers are unable to use live
video, e-learning, game-based learning and other online
applications in the classroom.
6. Lack of professional trainings for the teachers
7. Some students are not interested to get involved in
hands-on activities.
