Drill Commenced at : 1610 Lt Drill Completed at : 1640 Lt
Oil spill drill scenario that cargo pump No. 1P unable to used during Discharge operation and
Decided to use Portable cargo pump to transfer cargo from COT - 1P to Nearest Tank COT -2P
(loaded 98%). During Transfer operation duty officer duty some other job & lack to supervised
transfer operation.
1610 Hrs : AB on duty call duty officer that’s found COT - 1P cargo overflow from Cargo tank sampling
hatch. Immediately Officer on duty call Master & Ch.Officer.
1613 Hrs : Master sounded general alarm and announcing using public addresser about oil spill.
1615 Hrs : All crews muster on the emergency mustering point.
1618 Hrs : Briefing by Chief Officer regarding the situation and what action to do as per Muster station.
1620 Hrs : All crews action take their responsible duty.
1625 Hrs : Shut & Disconnect isolated hydraulic (IN) to Portable cargo pump, transfer oil spill into SOPEP
drum with wilden pump and clean main deck with sawdust.
1628 Hrs : Open manifold COT – 1P & Start Cargo pump 1P to discharge ashore & reduce cargo content in
COT – 1P
1630 Hrs : Oil spill under control & Chief Officer inform to Master.
1635 Hrs : Short Briefing from Ch.Officer how to combat oil pollution, question and answer.
1640 Hrs : Completed drill.

REVIEW PROCEDURE
This review shall be performed every time a Oil Spill Drill has been carried out. The Master shall carry out a complete
review of the emergency procedures and drill along with all participants after completion of drill. The following areas
are to be covered (Put a tick mark in the relevant box against each item).
A. Are crew aware of their responsibilites Yes No
B. Was response of crew to the situation satisfactory Yes No
C. Are emergency procedures being followed Yes No
D. Are the emergency procedures in place effective for achieving the desired objectives. Yes No
At the end of the drill, Ch.Officer explained how to important wach during cargo operation, specially when cargo
tank was filling with cargo untill 98%. Ensure all High /Overfill alarm are tested and good operating before cargo
operation. Do accuracy / cross check between cargo level master & MMC/UTI at interval time to know in
advance any abnormalty. Any mulfaction of those equipment should record / report to office & rectify soonest.
Suggestions for improvement/ Lessons learnt
( Note : Suggestion may include identified improvement in contigency plans, duties & responsibilitie,crew response etc)
Company should arrange to supply on board safety video training to improve crew skill in safety.
Any defects or shortfalls with any of the above items, must be rectified and the office is to be immediately notified using the
’Near Miss Reporting ‘ form.
