“Intrapersonal”? The term
intrapersonal is on how an
individual connects with oneself.

American psychologist Carl Rogers first used the phrase
“Intrapersonal Communication" in the 1960s. He used it to
describe ways that people express themselves and interact with
their inner selves.
One of the earliest definitions of "intrapersonal communication"
in the field of communication was developed by Larry Barker and
Gordon Wiseman.

you engage in intrapersonal dialogue.

feel more self-assured when you can identify your
strengths in any aspect of your life.

others' emotions and makes it simpler for you to
comprehend the viewpoint of other people.
Disadvantages of Intrapersonal Communication

Self-Deception - when speaking to oneself, one faces
the risk of being locked in their own perspective and
failing to consider alternative viewpoints.

Lack of Motivation - people with strong


intrapersonal abilities are clear on what they want. As a
result, if they engage in an activity that has nothing to
do with their objectives, they become uninterested.

Lack of external feedback - relying only on


interpersonal communication can reduce chances for
social interaction and teamwork.
