MELC: Distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of properties. (S7MT-Ie-f-4) Module 5

PURE SUBSTANCE AND MIXTURES (Part 2)

There are other ways of classifying mixtures aside from its appearance as homogeneous or
heterogeneous. The three kinds of mixtures based on its properties are solution, colloid and suspension.
Their distinguishing properties include the filterability of particles, their tendency to settle down and ability
to scatter light. All these properties are related to size of particles present in the mixtures. The separation
of a mixture into its component substances make use of differences in the physical properties of those
substances.

ACTIVITY 1 - A: Directions: Below is an activity for you to recall what you have learned in the previous
modules and home task. Given are common compounds and its chemical formula, identify the different
elements that composed each compound. Give the symbol and name. A sample is provided for you.

paper with ½ inch margin. Don’t forget
to write your name and your section.
