ProfEd 609: The Teacher and The School Curriculum

First Semester, S.Y. 2022-2023

September 7, 2022

Second Assignment

Name:______________________Course/Section:______________________Year____

1. What is a curriculum to you? Why is it important to a teacher (future teacher like

you)? (10 points)

- Curriculum is the system that governs all the processes between learning and
teaching. It is important to teachers because it’s a plan that directs to the
achievement of the learning goals and in a bigger context, it is to prepare us
to the real world by equipping us with knowledge and values. Furthermore, it
includes factors of methods of what we should teach, how should we teach it
and assessing our leaners’ achievements in the learning process.

2. Choose at least 2 types of curricula. How do you understand them? What are their

uses? Are they beneficial to you as a future teacher? (10 points)

- The two curricula that I chose are the “Taught and Assessed Curricula”.
Based on my own understanding, taught curriculum is a curriculum wherein
there’s an interaction between learners and teacher. A teacher can conduct
lecture, group works and other interactive activities. Furthermore, by means
of this curriculum, the teacher can identify students’ learning styles based on
their needs and interests. As a result, teachers can use any kinds of teaching
methods as long as it helps the students develop their knowledge and
performance in their learning process. Second id the assessed curriculum.
Based on my own understanding, assessed curriculum is a curriculum
wherein a teacher can monitor or evaluate a student through quizzes, exams,
portfolios and performances. By means of this curriculum, you can know if
students are really progressing with their learnings or not. As a future
educator, these two curricula that chose can be beneficial for the
development of my leathers as well as my performance as a teacher. To be a
teacher, you must know how to establish an effective learning environment to
your students. This shows that as a teacher, you will realize that students
should not only know what they are doing but also know why and how they
are doing it and it is our responsibility as a teacher to integrate their needs
and help design a program that could promote better learning and student
success.

3. What is the most important role of a curricularist to you? Justify your answer.

(10 points)

- In my own perspective, the most important role of a curricularist is the one

that knows the curriculum because all of us are leaners form the start so in
order to teach something, we go through the process of learning wherein we
acquire knowledge about what we learn and what we are able to teach our
student. As a teacher, you must be a knower. It’s an essential ability to know
what are the necessary aspects of teaching the curriculum, because if you
know nothing about the curriculum what will be the purpose of your goals in
teaching? What will be the basis of conducting your teaching methods in the
learning progress of your students? Therefore, it requires you to have
mastery, experience and discipline so that students can acquire basic
information and understanding to develop them as individual and interactive
learners in the school environment.
